My Fiance Kissed His First Love After She Pushed Me Down the Stairs Chapter 04

My Fiance Kissed His First Love After She Pushed Me Down the Stairs Chapter 04

When I opened my eyes again, I was in a hospital room.

My baby was gone.

I had prepared myself for that possibility.

But I had never imagined it would happen like this.

So brutally.

So cruelly.

Gautier sat beside my bed.

The guilt on his face looked exactly the same as it had years ago.

He took my hand gently.

“I never thought Vivian would go this far,” he said softly. “This time, I’ll make sure she learns her lesson.”

A lesson?

I almost laughed.

Without Gautier’s constant indulgence, Vivian never would have become this reckless.

He had never truly punished her.

Just like he had never truly cared about me.

My heart had hurt so much for so long that it had finally gone numb.

I closed my eyes and rested a hand over my now-flat stomach.

“This was the second one.”

Gautier frowned.

“What?”

Of course he had forgotten.

This was the second child we’d lost because of Vivian.

Gautier always forgot the things that mattered to me.

Forgot my pain.

Forgot my sacrifices.

Forgot the way my love for him had slowly withered away.

This time, I wasn’t going to stay silent.

Taking a deep breath, I looked directly into his eyes.

“I’m calling the police.”

His expression froze.

“I’m going to make Vivian pay for what she did.”

“Absolutely not!”

Gautier immediately pulled his hand away.

“You’ll ruin her life!”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“Then who takes responsibility for mine?”

The pain in my body felt endless.

It spread from my wounds straight into my soul.

My entire body trembled.

“The doctors said the damage is severe. I may never be able to have children again.”

My voice cracked.

“I lost my baby. I lost my future. Who’s going to give all that back to me?”

Vivian couldn’t.

Gautier couldn’t.

And judging by the silence that followed, he knew it.

Several moments passed before he finally spoke.

“Vivian only did it because she loves me.”

I felt sick.

His next words shattered whatever remained of my heart.

“You’re about to become my wife. Can’t you just let this go?”

I had overlooked everything before because I loved him.

I loved him enough to keep sacrificing myself.

Enough to protect him from difficult choices.

But not anymore.

My love for Gautier had died beneath those cherry blossoms.

Along with our child.

I didn’t want the empty title of Mrs. Laurent.

I didn’t want his pity.

I wanted freedom.

I wanted out.

And this time, I was leaving for good.

After Gautier left the hospital, I called the police.

At four o’clock that afternoon, Vivian was arrested.

At five o’clock, Gautier bailed her out.

At 5:10 p.m., a message arrived on my phone.

[Why did you call the police?

Do you have any idea how much you’ve hurt Vivian?

She’s been crying nonstop since she got to the station.

Come apologize to her immediately.]

I didn’t respond.

At 5:20 p.m., another message came through.

[If you refuse to come, I’ll have to find another way to comfort her.]

I ignored that one too.

At 6:10 p.m., Gautier sent me a video.

The moment it started playing, my blood ran cold.

It was a wedding.

His wedding.

Vivian stood at the altar wearing the repaired wedding gown.

My wedding gown.

They used the wedding design I’d spent years planning.

Even the guests were the same people who had been invited to ours.

Gautier had mobilized florists across the city.

The church overflowed with fresh flowers.

A massive diamond sparkled on Vivian’s finger.

Under the priest’s blessing, they exchanged vows.

Then they embraced as her favorite song filled the church.

The wedding I’d waited ten years for.

Vivian got it in less than an hour.

A mouthful of blood burst from my lips and splattered onto the hospital floor.

The nurse beside me panicked.

“Miss, we need to run some tests right now.”

I gently pushed her hand away.

“No.”

My flight would be departing soon.

And from this day forward, I would never cry over Gautier again.

Numbly, I packed my belongings.

Before leaving, I glanced at my phone one final time.

At the wedding that had never belonged to me.

Fireworks exploded across the night sky above the city.

A celebration of their love.

And the final curtain call for ours.

It was over.

All of it.

Settling into my first-class seat, I slowly closed my eyes.

High above the clouds, I finally felt nothing.

Far below, however, Gautier suddenly pressed a hand to his chest.

For reasons he couldn’t explain, a sharp pain pierced his heart.
