My Fiance Claimed to Be from a Parallel Universe to Sleep with My Bestie Chapter 07

Marcus returned to the home that had once been ours.

He tried to find my things.

He tried to find proof that I had ever existed there.

But the home had already been taken over by Celeste’s luxury purchases.

Hermès tissue-box covers, decorative pieces, accessories, and countless other little things filled every corner.

The things he had once spent six figures buying for her now looked painfully garish to him.

He questioned Celeste.

“Where are Nora’s things?”

“What did you do with all her belongings?”

Celeste was frightened.

“Didn’t you tell me to handle them however I wanted?”

“So I threw them out.”

“You threw them out? How dare you throw away her things?”

Marcus’s eyes went bloodshot, and he rushed out.

But the trash had already been hauled away to the landfill.

He refused to give up and went to the landfill himself.

At last, among mountains of garbage, he dug out one of my journals.

The entries began on the first day we got together.

[He spent several thousand dollars to rent out an entire restaurant for one hour, just to ask me to be his girlfriend. Back then, that was half a year of rent and groceries for us, and it hurt me to see him spend it. He only felt like he still had not given me enough. I knew he loved me. Love always feels like it owes the other person more.]

[He finally decided that one year from now, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the day we met, we would get married.]

[A girl named Celeste Sullivan came to the company. He argued with me just to keep her there. I feel so scared. Marcus, you’ll always love me, won’t you?]

[My chest hurts so badly that I went in for a checkup. The doctor said my depression has started showing up as physical symptoms and that I need inpatient treatment and medication. But I know this is heartbreak, not something medicine can fix. And the one person who could have eased it forgot our fifth anniversary so he could spend Celeste’s birthday with her.]

Marcus felt as if a hand had seized his heart and torn into it.

He had never known that because of him, I had worn myself down until I became this sick.

His hands shook harder as he kept turning the pages.

[I told Marcus that every time he chose Celeste over me, I would save one dollar. Once I saved ninety-nine dollars, I would buy a train ticket and leave this place.]

[Today, I saved my ninety-eighth dollar.]

The journal ended there.

He thought again of what I had said before I fell: this was the ninety-ninth time.

Marcus covered his face with both hands, but he could not hold back the sob that broke from his throat.

He had always believed he was the person who had saved my life.

But now it seemed that he was the one who had pushed me into an even deeper abyss.

Just then, an employee from the company sent him a message.

Because I was no longer taking over the Promise Project, the project’s partner had decided to terminate the contract.

After hearing that he had used me and thrown me aside, clients and partners on other projects began pulling out one after another.

Employees at the company also started submitting their resignations.

One message after another hit him like a blow to the back of the head.

And at last, they made him understand.

The moon never shines with its own light.

It only reflects the sun.

Everything around him was silent.

No one was there.

Farther away, the city lights were just beginning to glow, bright and endless.

But Marcus felt unbearably alone.

It was as if fate itself had abandoned him.

Only then did he realize the truth.

It had never been that I could not live without him.

Without me, everything in his life had lost its meaning.

He began searching for me like a madman.
