My Fiancé Chose Her Over Me—So I Canceled Our Wedding Chapter 06

At nine on the morning of the wedding, Claire still hadn’t shown up.

The makeup artist came over for the third time to ask when the bride would arrive. Only then did Ethan check

his phone.

She hadn’t replied to either message he’d sent the night before.

He called her.

Her phone was off.

Luke stood nearby, knotting his tie. He laughed when he heard.

“Still mad, huh?”

Ryan didn’t take it seriously, either.

“She fell yesterday, and you didn’t go to the hospital with her. She’s probably waiting for you to come apologize in person.”

Ethan straightened his cuffs.

“Now she’s pulling this on our wedding day? She’s really pushing it.”

Even so, he didn’t go to get her.

Six years.

No matter how angry Claire got, she’d never let it interfere with anything important.

She’d waited so long for this wedding.

She was the last person who’d want to miss it.

Sophie looked uneasy, though.

“Maybe you should go check on her.”

“It’s my fault, If you hadn’t all rushed to protect me first yesterday, she wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”

“Today’s so important. If she really doesn’t come because of me, how am I ever supposed to face her?”

Ethan frowned,

“This has nothing to do with you.”

Luke handed her the veil.

“Stop blaming yourself for everything.”

“The makeup artist keeps asking to check the length, right? Claire’s not here. Try it on for her.”

The veil settled over her.

The photographer walked in just then and raised his camera with a smile.

“Can I get the bride looking this way?”

Luke burst out laughing.

“You know what? You actually look the part.”

Ryan pushed the bouquet into Sophie’s arms.

“While you’re at it, let’s check where you should stand.”

Sophie blushed and pushed at him.

“Stop it. Claire’s going to get upset again if she finds out.”

That was what she said.

Still, she stepped beside Ethan with the bouquet in her arms.

The music started.

They walked beneath the floral arch together.

Nothing needed adjusting.

Ethan stood there, suddenly taken aback.

The white roses Claire didn’t like yesterday were Sophie’s favorite.

The place at the head table where Claire should’ve sat was now Sophie’s.

The three of them had even changed the reception menu to suit Sophie’s tastes.

Claire wasn’t there.

Yet her wedding kept moving along exactly as planned.

As if all that was missing was a name, not a bride.

The thought left Ethan irritated for reasons he couldn’t explain.

He called Claire again.

No answer.

He tried again.

Still no answer.

“What is she trying to pull?”

Ethan sent a message, his expression cold.

[Enough already.]

[Everyone’s waiting for you.]

Still no reply.

Sophie saw his expression and spoke softly.

“Maybe I should go get her.”

“You all rushed to protect me first yesterday. Of course that hurt her.”

Her eyes reddened.

“I’d be upset, too, if it were me.”

Luke immediately frowned.

“What does that have to do with you?”

Ryan chimed in.

“She’s the one refusing to come to her own wedding. Now you’re supposed to go beg her?”

Ethan was already on edge, but that calmed him down.

“Nobody’s going anywhere.

“She’ll come on her own.”

He sounded certain.

Just like every other time over the past six years.

As long as he didn’t try to smooth things over, Claire would always be the one to back down and come back.

Just then, the hotel manager hurried over.

“Mr. Brooks, I need to confirm something with you.”

“Ms. Bennett has already canceled the wedding on her own.””

“She also said that if you insist on going ahead, we should put Ms. Hayes down as the bride instead.”

The bouquet slipped from Sophie’s arms and hit the floor.

“Me?”

She went pale and quickly shook her head.

“No, I didn’t… Did Claire get the wrong idea?”

“Ethan, I was only trying things out for her. I never wanted to take her place as the bride.”

Luke immediately reassured her.

“Why are you panicking? You’re not the one who said to change it.”

Ryan’s expression darkened, too.

“What is Claire trying to do? Humiliate Soph on the day of the wedding?”

But Ethan’s expression slowly darkened.

The manager was still waiting for his answer.

“Mr. Brooks, should I change the bride’s name on the booking?”
