My Family Saved Their Adopted Daughter First, Then I Died Before Their Eyes Chapter 04

The door to the private observation room stood half open.

Lily was propped up against the headboard, eating an apple, while every reading on the monitor remained

normal.

Laura sat beside the bed. “Slow down. You were trapped up there for a long time, and you’re still shaken. I’ll make sure the park answers for what happened.”

Richard stood at the foot of the bed. “You’re safe now. No one’s going to hurt you again.”

After checking the monitor, Ethan added, “If you feel any pain, dizziness, or trouble breathing, tell me right

away.”

He pointed to the refrigerated transport case in the corner.

“The four units of AB–negative blood are right there. If anything changes, we won’t waste a second.”

Lily lowered her eyes, deliberately letting her voice tremble.

“Please don’t blame Claire anymore. She was hurt too. Maybe she was just scared.”

Richard slammed his palm against the bedside table.

“She knew I had to avoid even the appearance of favoritism, yet she still tried to make me rescue my own daughter first in front of everyone. She kept saying her gondola was going to fall just to force my hand. That wasn’t fear. She was trying to make me do what she wanted.”

Laura sighed.

“She was lying in the lobby pretending to be unconscious just now. I already told her to stop disrupting the ER like that. Ethan said she didn’t need priority treatment either.”

Ethan adjusted his glasses.

“Once she calms down, I’ll talk to her properly. At the very least, she owes Lily an apology.”

The door suddenly burst open.

Noah stood in the doorway, his white coat covered in blood.

Ethan’s expression darkened.

“Dr. Carter, you’re out of line. Leave. Now.”

Noah walked straight up to him and slapped the bloodstained report against his chest.

“Your sister is dead. Because you withheld the blood she needed, she just died in the trauma room.”

The room went completely silent.

Ethan glanced at the bloody mark on his chest and let out a disbelieving laugh.

“So now pretending to be dead is part of the act too? And you’re actually going along with this?”

He threw the report onto the floor.

“Fine. I’ll go see for myself how long she plans to keep this up.”

The three of them rushed to the trauma room together.

Under the surgical lights, I lay motionless on the trauma bed.

“Claire, get up.”

Ethan stepped to the bedside and touched my face.

Cold.

Rigid.

He jerked back and crashed into the defibrillator behind him.

“No. That’s impossible.”

I floated above them, staring down at my own body, my eyes still half–open.

While all of them had stayed by Lily’s side, there was no longer enough blood left in my body to keep me

alive.
