My Don Paid Me 800. His Secretary Stole Millions Chapter 07

My Don Paid Me 800. His Secretary Stole Millions Chapter 07

The next night.

I’d barely parked my cart when the crowd swarmed my spot.

Last night’s livestream had gone viral.

#Secretary vs. Mistress: $80K Turned into $800# was trending.

Other influencers were streaming from my cart.

Some cheered for my independence. Others mocked my past.

Because yeah, I used to be a don’s mistress. Willingly.

Even though he wasn’t married, people still judged. Still insulted.

I was swamped.

Then a familiar Rolls-Royce pulled up at the corner.

This time, Knox was dressed down. Casual shirt and pants. No entourage.

He walked up to my cart and started packing orders.

The customers froze.

“Is… is the don packing my hot dog?”

“Did the world end?”

The don who’d killed without blinking was using those same hands to bag hot dogs.

I frowned. Blocked him with my spatula.

“Knox. What are you doing?”

“I’m here to work for you.”

His eyes were dead serious.

“I sent Elaine to prison. Embezzlement.”

“I transferred all the money she stole back to your account.”

I blinked. Pulled out my phone.

Sure enough, a huge sum hit my account.

Enough for Mrs. Brown’s best prosthetic. Enough to renovate the whole orphanage.

But I didn’t feel relieved.

“I’ll take the money. You owed me that.”

I put my phone away.

“Now get lost.”

Knox didn’t move.

He opened a box. Inside were apple pies.

“You used to make these for me,” he said quietly. Almost pleading.

“I made them myself. Want to try?”

I thought he’d lost it.

He was a target. Standing in the middle of a crowded street.

Sure, his men were nearby. But he was still exposed.

And he’d made apple pies.

A year ago, I would’ve been touched.

I just shook my head.

“Knox, find yourself another bird. I don’t want to be caged anymore.”

His eyes dimmed.

“Rae. I know I messed up. I was blind. Arrogant.”

“But I can’t live without you. I need you, Rae. Come back.”

“No.”

I didn’t want to be anyone’s mistress.

I didn’t want to beg for money.

I knew what we were. He was a python ruling New York.

I was just a woman trying to make it in a big city.

I wasn’t going to waste my youth playing his game.

“What do you want? I’ll give you anything,” he said, voice low. Begging.

I shook my head.

“I want to be ordinary. Fall in love like ordinary people. Work. Get married. Maybe have a kid.”

“What I want… you can’t give me.”

In that villa, I barely saw him. He came home late. Left early.

He carried the weight of his family’s legacy. I just wanted a normal life.

Knox looked at me.

For the first time, I saw pain in his eyes.

End of the month.

I sat on my bed, counting this month’s earnings.

With the money Knox paid back, I’d covered Mrs. Brown’s surgery.

Even had enough for new clothes for the orphanage kids.

I let out a long breath.

The weight on my chest was finally gone.

A knock at the door.

Knox.

I couldn’t believe it. A month without a word. I thought he’d given up.

He walked in. Closed the door.

I saw the blood.
