My Cold-Blooded Alpha Came Home and Found His Younger Self Calling Me Wife Chapter 03

Nothing happened between us that night. He was eighteen, but he had only just graduated from high school. He had no legal identity in this timeline and, more importantly, no mate bond with me.

Still, he was far more entertaining than Adrian at thirty. He dragged me into playing co-op games all night and mocked me mercilessly whenever I lost a round.

But the moment I truly got angry, the grin vanished from his face. He handed the controller back and let me restart. At one in the morning, he announced that he was hungry and marched into the kitchen, where he used the cheese, tomatoes, and bread in the refrigerator to make two grilled cheese sandwiches.

“Try it. I used to make these for myself after training.”

Watching him move around the kitchen, my thoughts drifted. Thirty-year-old Adrian would never cook for himself. He would have his assistant order from one of the best restaurants in the city, or take me to the revolving restaurant downtown on the rare nights he had time.

Whenever he was too busy to be with me, he simply transferred money into my account. At first, those numbers convinced me there was nothing wrong with a marriage like ours. We had no passion, but I had status, resources, and a stable life.

Besides, Adrian might have been distant, but no one could fault his looks or his abilities. Only tonight did I realize how long it had been since anyone had cared for me in such a clumsy but sincere way. Young Adrian set a plate in front of me.

“Eat. I made it myself. No one else gets this kind of treatment.”

I took a bite. To my surprise, it was actually good.

“Not bad.”

He propped his chin on one hand and watched me, his eyes shining like a young wolf fresh from his first shift.

“You’re pretty cute when you play games. You don’t look like someone who’s almost thirty at all.”

I paused and gave him a cold look.

“I’m twenty-eight.”

He raised both hands in surrender.

“Fine. Twenty-eight.”

Then he could not resist asking, “Does that old man ever play games with you?” I shook my head.

“At thirty, you’re a partner at Blackwood & Hale and the Alpha of the North Bay Pack. Forget games. You barely come home.”

The boy smiled smugly.

“I knew it. He’s just older, richer, and more powerful.”

He leaned closer, his voice openly coaxing.

“Forget about him and be with me instead. I’m young, I have plenty of energy, and I can stay with you every day.”

I had to admit that the impossibly young version of Adrian tempted me for one dangerous moment. But I could still think rationally. I stood.

“You don’t have a Social Security number or any recognized pack status, and neither of us knows when you might disappear. How could I leave everything behind and go with you? You’re sleeping in the guest room tonight. We’ll deal with the rest tomorrow.”

He pressed his lips together, visibly displeased, but in the end he obeyed and went to the guest room.
