My Boyfriend Gave Our Home Access Card To My Best Friend Chapter 07

Footsteps sounded behind me. Daniel set a cup of warm tea with milk beside my hand.

“Have something warm.”

I smiled and thanked him, then caught the question in his eyes. In the end, he didn’t ask. He only tucked a

loose strand of hair behind my ear and pointed toward the window.

“Look. Tomorrow the sun comes up, and you get a new day.”

Seabrook glittered beyond the glass. I took a sip, letting the warmth spread through me.

He was right. There was so much I still wanted to do. I could leave the past where it belonged.

Six months later, my team won the company’s biggest project. At the celebration, my boss announced that I

was being promoted to oversee projects across the company.

As the room broke into applause, Daniel raised his glass to me. He looked at me with warm, unmistakable

pride.

A little tipsy, I stepped into the hallway for some air. When I turned, I met a pair of bloodshot eyes.

Ethan stood a short distance away, staring at me. He’d lost weight in the months since I’d seen him. His hair

was unkempt, and the confidence I remembered had given way to exhaustion.

“Claire…”

He stared for a few seconds before joy lit his face. Then he rushed forward and locked me in his arms.

“It really is you! How could you be so cruel? You didn’t even give me a chance to explain!”

Hot tears fell against my neck. “I’ve been looking for you for six months. Every day, I’ve waited for you to

come home. I got rid of that woman. Everything’s back the way it was. I’ve been waiting…”

My stomach rolled, and his grip was so tight I could barely breathe. “Let go of me!”

He only held me harder. “No. Claire, I know I was wrong. Your job, the apartment, the registration, I fixed all of it. I told everyone you’re Mrs. Cole and everything before was a misunderstanding. We can have another baby. Please come home.”

I was about to refuse when a fist slammed into his face. He stumbled to the floor, blood appearing at the

corner of his mouth.

Daniel stepped in front of me and calmly adjusted his cuff. “Sorry. I thought someone was harassing my girlfriend.”

Ethan stared at us. “Girlfriend?”

He scrambled to his feet. “Claire, you love me. How could you be with someone else? You brought him here

to make me jealous, didn’t you?”

I almost laughed at how desperately he was lying to himself. I slipped my hand through Daniel’s arm.

“I’ve moved on, Ethan.”

“No!” He reached for me, but Daniel stepped forward and blocked him.

“Claire, I made a mistake! You’re the one I’ve always loved. Just come back, and I’ll do anything you want!”

His voice rose until passing servers turned to look. I cut him off with a cold laugh.

“Come back? To seventeen flights of stairs? To watching you hand my work to Vanessa? Or to begging for

help while a mob attacks me, so I can watch you carry her away again?”

His face went white. “I’m sorry, Claire. I didn’t know you were pregnant. If I’d known-”

“What would knowing have changed?”

I looked straight at him. “I was right in front of you. You didn’t let me finish. Even if I hadn’t been pregnant, you still would’ve chosen Vanessa. Wouldn’t you?”
