My Billionaire Thinks I’m His Cat Not His Fiancée Chapter 04

Ethan came home that evening, carrying a faint trace of perfume.

His tired expression softened when he saw me, then darkened as he noticed the mess on my legs and clothes. He strode over.

“What happened? Who did this?”

His concern caught me off guard, stirring up emotions I’d tried to bury.

My lips pressed together, and the words came out before I could stop them—childish, almost petulant. “Why do you care?”

Ethan immediately apologized, promising to get to the bottom of it.

Then he carefully buried his handsome face in my stomach.

I pushed him away. He just came right back.

He mumbled into me, “Don’t be mad at me, kitten. Don’t leave me. You’d be so skinny out there on your own. Last night I dreamed I turned into a wild man with no cat.”

I held the System item in my hand and hesitated.

Maybe I should just let it slide. Was going back to greasy takeout, getting yelled at by bosses, and taking the fall for coworkers—was that really better than being Ethan’s cat?

But if Ethan actually got married… what would that make me?

I tested the waters. “What did you do today?”

His fingers curled. He pulled back slightly.

…I met someone my family set me up with. I thought maybe it was time I started dating.”

I didn’t say anything.

Over the next few days, I quietly packed a suitcase. I said goodbye to all the gorgeous clothes and jewelry in my closet.

I had to admit, the man had impeccable taste.

My skin was glowing, my hair was silky.

Then I told the System to use the item.

I’d wait for Ethan to wake up tomorrow, realize he’d been living with an actual human being, and kick me out.

I spent the night tallying up everything I could take. Not a bad deal.

The next morning.

I took a deep breath and opened my door.

Ethan was gone. Already at work.

On the dining table, inside the little yellow cat bowl he’d bought the day he brought me home, sat a freshly made meal.

I was too anxious to eat.

I asked: [System, when does the item take effect?]

The System flickered: [Theoretically, it should have worked last night.]

[I don’t want to face this. Maybe I should just leave now.]

[…Do you really want your face on a lost cat flyer?]

The mental image of Ethan sobbing over a poster with my face on it made me cringe so hard I wanted to disappear.

Finally, he came home.

Normally, the second he walked in—whether I was gaming or watching a movie—he’d dive in for a mandatory cuddle session, then emerge refreshed to cook.

Today, he didn’t hug me.

I watched him closely, searching for any sign of change.

But he looked perfectly normal.

He tied his apron and smiled. “What are you staring at?”

…I couldn’t exactly ask him, “Do you see a cat or a person?”

His Adam’s apple moved. “Do you want a kiss?”

I shook my head fast.

A flash of hurt and disappointment crossed his eyes.

Then he said, “By the way, I decided against the merger. Things like that… should happen naturally.”

He glanced at me.

“You—you should put some clothes on. It’s chilly.”

I tugged at my short sleep dress.

It wasn’t cold at all.

It was the first time he’d ever told me to cover up. He used to want me in a new outfit every single day just so he could take photos.

I leaned in closer, and closer still.

I widened my eyes and shoved my face right up to his.

Ethan looked down, pinched my cheek, and warned, “Get this close and I’ll kiss you till you can’t breathe, kitten.”

I sighed and walked away.

Nope. Still broken.

Behind me, Ethan’s rigid body finally relaxed.
