My Bestie Stole My Childhood Love, I Married a Billionaire Chapter 08

Nate showed up to help me move.

He’d been taking me out every week. Even a trip—first time I’d ever flown first class.

I was starting to suspect his mom’s “small business” was a lot bigger than small. Needed to talk to him about it.

Old building. No elevator. He took off his jacket. His shirt strained across his chest.

I took him to the best restaurant in town to celebrate. Afterward, there was a Ferris wheel.

While Nate paid, I ran into someone.

Three months. Ethan looked thinner. Dark circles.

I tried to ignore him. He came right up. Said my name.

“Vivian.”

I gave him a plastic smile. His face fell further.

“Chloe made me stay away. But I came back the minute she left. Cut her off. You okay? If blocking me helps, take your time.”

I stepped back from his reach. “I thought I was clear.”

His hand hung in the air. Eyes hollow. Voice cracking. “Because I didn’t get you the love charm?”

“Vivian, I don’t believe in that stuff. We’re almost thirty. Real life. Finances. A home. It just wasn’t a priority. But if you want—we’ll go

back. Just us. I’ll buy you any charm you want. We’ll hang it in our place.”

I shook my head. Didn’t bother telling him I’d moved.

Turns out the career charm worked. I’d just won a teaching excellence award. Things were going great.

But I didn’t want to share any of it with him anymore.

Seven years. I’d thrown every little happiness at that ice wall, hoping to crack it.

Nate walked toward us. I said, “If that’s all, I have plans.”

Nate’s eyes flicked to Ethan. He draped his jacket over my shoulders. Took my hand.

“Let’s go. Cold.”

My pulse stuttered. Warmth bloomed from his palm up my arm. I didn’t pull away.

At the Ferris wheel, the attendant paused. “Three? Sorry, there’s only two spots left on this rotation. One of you’ll have to wait.”

I turned. Ethan was behind us, silent.

Nate raised our joined hands. “We’re together.”

We sat in the carriage. The wheel rose. I looked around—empty. Every other car empty.

“The attendant said—”

“I arranged it.” Nate’s voice was soft. “Didn’t want anyone

interrupting.”

The carriage climbed to the top. My heart pounded. He wouldn’t—

“Vivian Vance. Will you be my girlfriend?”

He opened a velvet box. A gold bracelet lay inside.

My face caught fire. My tongue tied. I nodded, too fast.

Vivian, what are you—
