My Best Friend’s Brother is My Ex Chapter 02

My Best Friend’s Brother is My Ex Chapter 02

Mrs. Shaw summoned us downstairs for breakfast bright and early the next morning.

Soren sat straight across the table from me.

His long fingers moved with effortless, well-honed poise as he ate, every small gesture carried quiet, restrained elegance.

I couldn’t help stealing glances at him

Then, as if sensing it, Soren lifted his gaze and held mine captive.

One eyebrow lifted faintly in quiet surprise

My heart skipped a beat.

Even after I looked away, I could still feel his unrelenting stare searing into my skin.“Mila, these Honey-Glazed Pork Ribs are my signature recipe. Try them,” Mrs. Shaw said warmly.I snapped out of my daze and put on my sweetest smile.

A handful of sincere compliments had her chuckling happily in no time.

“Stay as long as you’d like; make this house your home.”“Thank you, Mrs. Shaw.”I reassured myself there was no cause for panic

Even living under the same roof, the odds of Soren realizing the girl who ghosted him were slim.I just needed to hold my composure.Soon, the talk turned to Soren.

From what I picked up, Mrs. Shaw had tried set him up on blind dates recently.

But whenever she asked, his replies remained dull and unenthusiastic.

“Mom, I told you. I’m not interested.”“We only met twice. I can barely recall her face. What exactly am I supposed to know?”Mrs. Shaw rolled her eyes and set her chopsticks down, exasperated.

“You turn down every girl. At this pace, I’m starting to wonder whether you’re even attracted to women.”Next to me, Chloe stifled a laugh, her shoulders trembling.

She raised a hand like she was taking an oath in court.

“Mom, trust me, my brother’s straight.”“He’s just hung up on someone who wronged him badly”Mrs. Shaw shot her a dismissive, unamused glance.

I kept my head down, kept my gaze fixed firmly on my plate, saying nothing.Of course, fate had more awkwardness in store for me.

“Mila Hart.”Soren’s voice was cool and crisp.

I nearly dropped my chopsticks in shock.

There was nothing unusual about his tone, yet hearing my name from him sent a cold shudder running down my spine.

Before I could process why, his dark eyes were on me again.

An unidentifiable emotion flickered deep within them.

“You look guilty.”“Got a secret you’re hiding?”My mind went blank.

My face went pale. I had no comeback at all.

Luckily, Mrs. Shaw cut in to defuse the tension.“Quit picking on Mila, you brute. She’s our guest.”Chloe grinned. “Wow, bro. You remembered her name after one introduction.”I sat quiet amid the surrounding laughter, staring numbly at my meal.

I failed to notice Soren’s eyes, sharp and calculating.
