My Best Friend Slept With My Mafia Husband Chapter 08

My Best Friend Slept With My Mafia Husband Chapter 08

I returned to the private cemetery my mother had loved most in life and placed her ashes in the Sable family memorial hall.

White roses covered the stone steps.

I knelt before her tombstone and said my final goodbye.

But I did not expect Alarion to find me there.

Ismeria came with him.

When the two of them stood before me again, I no longer felt helpless.

Alarion was the one who panicked first.

“Virelle, you… how are you?”

As he spoke, he clumsily reached for my wrist, his eyes filling with tears.

“Let me see you.”

“Do you know how worried I was? I…”

Without changing expression, I lifted my hand and slapped him hard across the face.

Alarion stared at me in shock.

The next second, Ismeria stepped between us.

“Virelle, if you want to hit someone, hit me.”

“Don’t blame him.”

“I accidentally caused your mother’s death and hurt you too…”

“Hit me.”

As she spoke, she pushed her face forward with firm resolve.

I only looked at her.

I wondered how the bright, cheerful face I had once known had turned into my nightmare.

Then I smiled.

“Are the two of you done performing your tragic romance?”

Alarion shoved her aside without mercy and came back to me.

“I was wrong. From now on, my only Donna is you. Come home with me.”

His eyes were full of confidence.

As if he were certain I would throw myself into his arms like before.

As if he were certain that as long as he turned back, I would forgive him unconditionally.

But from now on, that would never happen again.

I looked straight into his eyes and smiled with mockery.

“Alarion, there is no possibility left between us.”

“I wish you both a long and happy life together.”

Shock filled Alarion’s eyes as he stared at me.

Ismeria, standing beside him, lost her composure first.

“We’re all adults. Can you stop being so childish?”

“He and I…”

Before she could finish, I slapped her across the face.

“You…”

Now that I had seen both her faces clearly, I was no longer willing to endure her.

“You didn’t think I would hit you, did you?”

Of course.

For all these years, I had never laid a finger on her.

That was why she thought I would not make a scene.

Would not hate her.

Would not leave both of them at the same time.

But she still did not know me.

Alarion grabbed her by the hair and shoved her out of the memorial hall.

“Get out!”

Then, ignoring Ismeria’s struggle, he shut the door completely.

Just as he had in the past, the man lifted his hand, wanting to touch

my face.

His voice shook with panic.

“Virelle, I will avenge you.”

“These days without seeing you, I nearly went insane…”

The excitement in his eyes at having found what he lost did not look fake.

I also believed that when he said he could not bear to lose me, he meant it.

But looking into those affectionate eyes, all I saw was deception and betrayal.

I pulled his hand away in disgust and said each word clearly.

“Alarion.”

“I don’t want her.”

“And I don’t want you either.”

With that, I took the divorce agreement from my bag and handed it to him.

“Sign it.”

Alarion stared at the papers, took the pen with trembling hands, and froze for a long time.

In the end, he still signed his name.

He saw the resolve in my eyes.

He also saw the distance I could no longer hide.

I took the agreement, turned without looking back, and closed the doors of the memorial hall behind me.

A torrential rain began to fall.

Alarion stood outside the door, soaked through by the rain, staring at my back like a man who had lost his mind.

After who knew how long, the outside finally fell empty and quiet.

Cassian drove over to pick me up.

He helped me pack a few things I wanted to take, then draped a black coat over my shoulders.

On the way back, the car radio broadcast a piece of news.

There had been an accident on a nearby mountain road.

A black sports car had reportedly lost control in the rainy night and plunged down the slope.

Before it went over, the owner had struck a woman standing in the rain by the roadside.

When I heard Alarion and Ismeria’s names, I only looked calmly out the window.

Rain hit the glass, dragging the lights outside into long, blurred streaks.

As we drove past, we saw the wreckage by the road.

The black car was twisted beyond recognition.

Police lights flashed.

The rainy night was noisy.

I did not look twice.

I turned off the broadcast and switched to a song we used to listen to.

When the melody began, I could not help humming softly.

Cassian recognized it at once.

“You still remember.”

Then he lowered his voice and hummed along with me.

Rain tapped against the windows.

Outside, a fine rain kept falling.

Some goodbyes cannot be spoken aloud.

And some reunions arrive when you least expect them.
