My Asexual Husband Slept with His Best Friend for 8 Years Chapter 06

My Asexual Husband Slept with His Best Friend for 8 Years Chapter 06 Take It Back

Eight years. She never once walked out the door.

He slapped her she stayed. Carved words into her skin with a knife-she stayed. Walked in on him with Serena over and over again-she stayed.

He thought she was his. He thought she’d always be there. He thought wrong.

This time, she was really gone.

Sebastian crouched down, staring at the shattered glass and the dark pool of blood on the ground. His hand reached out, trembling, trying to grab onto something-anything-but there was nothing left to hold.

Those bloodstains. Hers. The blood he’d drawn from the woman he was supposed to protect.

The image burned behind his eyelids every time he blinked: her face half-shredded by glass, blood on her jaw, her eyes on him as she sank into the red water.

How the hell had he convinced himself she was fine?

“Babe!”

Serena’s heels pounded behind him-clicking fast across the pavement. Then she was there. Gauze still wrapped around her forehead, a small red spot bleeding through.

“Oh my God, what are you doing here? I woke up and you were just-gone! I thought—”

She saw him crouched on the ground and immediately dropped down beside him, grabbing his arm. “What’s wrong? God, your hands are freezing.”

He lifted his head. His eyes felt raw, stripped.

She froze. Then her gaze dropped to the stains on the ground. Something flickered across her face. Then the mask snapped back into place.

“She’s gone?” she breathed.

Sebastian didn’t answer. He just stared at the text message on his phone, the one from the bank. The one that told him she’d taken her half and walked away.

Serena glanced at the screen. Her mouth twitched-almost a smile-before she caught herself and pressed it down.

“Honestly? Maybe it’s the best for you.” She slipped her arm around his shoulders. Her touch was warm- too familiar. too entitled.

“I mean, come on, Sebastian. You never really loved her, did you? She was just… there. Taking up space in your life. Now she’s gone, and we don’t have to hide anymore. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”

Sebastian’s head snapped up. He stared at her like he was seeing her for the first time.

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

Serena blinked, startled by the edge in his voice. But she recovered fast. Her expression softened, eyes going doe-wide and wounded.

“Sebastian, hey, I know you’re upset. She was around for eight years, I get that. But you’ve always cared about me the most. My condition. The doctors said I needed you. We grew up together. You promised you’d always be with me. Now she’s gone, and we can finally be together.”

“Are you out of your fucking mind?”

Sebastian shoved her off him and scrambled backward, putting as much distance between them as he could.

“Why the hell would I be with you? What gave you that idea? We’re friends, Serena. That’s all this has ever been. That’s all you and I have ever been.”

Something changed behind her eyes. The smile was still there, but it had stopped reaching them.

“Friends. That’s what you’re going with?”

Sebastian stood up, unsteady. He looked at her-really looked at her-and for the first time in eight years realized he’d been looking at a stranger all along.

“I love Chloe. I’ve always loved Chloe. You and me? We were never anything more than childhood friends.”

Serena’s face went dark.

Slap. Hard across the face. So fast he didn’t even see it coming.

“You bastard! That’s not what you’ve been saying for eight years. You said I was the most important person in your life. You said my condition-only you could fix me. You said you’d always be there for me!”

“I felt sorry for you! You were sick. You needed someone. I stayed because I thought abandoning you would kill you.”

Sebastian pressed his hand to his stinging cheek, eyes burning.

“The doctors said you’d die if no one took care of you. That’s why I stayed.”

A long silence. Then she laughed.

A laugh that crawled up his spine and made his skin prickle.

“Do you think you’re giving me charity?” She stepped toward him, licking her lips. “Sebastian, how many times have we fucked in the past eight years? Want me to count for you? Last night, who was the one who kept me in your bed until sunrise? Who was begging me not to stop?”

The color drained from his face. His mouth opened. Closed. Opened again. Nothing came out.

Do you think you’re doing me a favor? Bullshit.”

Serena grabbed him by the collar, yanking him close. “Sebastian, I’ve had my mouth on every inch of you I know what you taste like. I know your body better than your wife ever did, and you tell me we are just friends. So tell me what does that make you to her? The frigid husband? A hypocrite who couldn’t keep it in his pants?”

“Get off me.” It came out weaker than he meant it to.

Sebastian wrenched free and swung-his palm cracking across her face with a sound that echoed off the walls.

Serena stumbled back, hand flying to her cheek. For a long moment she just stood there, breathing hard. staring at him with something wild and glittering in her eyes. Then she laughed. “Go ahead. Hit me again if it makes you feel better. It won’t change anything. Chloe’s gone. And you’ve got nobody left but me.”

She straightened up, smoothing down her hair like nothing had happened. Turned toward the door. Suddenly she paused in the doorway, looking back at him over her shoulder.

“By the way, Sebastian-your whole ‘asexual’ act? You and I both know it was bullshit. Chloe gave you her heart for eight years, and you wouldn’t even let her touch you. Me?” Her smile turned sharp. “I fuck you whenever I want.”

“Serena-”

“Save it.” She waved him off and didn’t even turn around. Just kept walking.

“You’re mine now, Sebastian. You’ve been mine for a long time. And now it’s too late to take it back.”
