My Alpha Didn’t Want Me… Until I Disappeared Chapter 10

Julian didn’t refuse my request.

When Nicola sat across from me, her posture remained haughty and full of disdain.

Yet the faint dark circles under her eyes told me she had likely spent the entire night tossing and turning in sheer anxiety.

“Juniper, you fell on purpose yesterday, didn’t you?”

“What’s the point of playing these pathetic little games? Do you honestly think Julian can’t see right through you?”

My fingers tapped rhythmically against the tabletop, my tone light and unbothered.

“Even if he sees through it, so what? He still chose to stand by my side anyway.”

I looked at her with a mockingly sweet smile, letting the manipulation drip from my words.

“Nicola, did you know? Julian confessed his love to me yesterday.”

“He told me he finally understands his true feelings. He says he only views you as a sister, and that I am his one true love.”

“I vanished for six long years, and he spent every single day searching for me. He even broke off his engagement with you despite all the immense pressure from his family.”

“Tell me, should I accept his confession? He’s incredibly wealthy, gorgeous, and as you know, back in college…”

Unable to control her fury any longer, Nicola grabbed her cup of hot coffee and hurled it straight at my face.

I dodged it with effortless ease.

Nicola’s eyes filled with pure venom as she shrieked at the top of her lungs, “Shut up! Shut the fuck up!”

“Julian belongs to me! Nobody is taking him away from me!”

“Juniper, you worthless bitch, you should have died right alongside your brother back then!”

The moment my eyes locked onto the butterfly tattoo on her wrist, the playful amusement in my gaze vanished, replaced by an icy calm.

“It really was you.”

She instantly realized she had spoken out of turn.

Panicking, she grabbed her bag and attempted to bolt, only to find several middle-aged men dressed in work uniforms blocking the exit around our table.

“Who the hell are you people?! Get out of my way!”

I stepped closer, whispering directly into her ear, “Don’t you remember them? They were my brother’s coworkers on the construction site.”

“As expected of the great Miss Grey, you handed out millions of dollars in hush money, but you couldn’t even be bothered to remember their faces.”

Nicola’s face grew whiter by the second, but she still thrust her chin out, desperately trying to lie her way out. “I have no idea what you’re talking about! I don’t understand any of this! Move!”

At that exact moment, the piercing red and blue lights of police cruisers flashed brilliantly outside the coffee shop windows.

I let out a soft chuckle, raising the voice recorder in my hand, its indicator light glowing steadily.

“It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand. You won’t have to say a word in court. The evidence, the witnesses, and the forensics will do all the talking for you.”

“Nicola, it’s time to pay the price for your reckless arrogance.”

As the police dragged Nicola away, she screamed profanities, cursing me to a brutal death.

As her frantic weeping faded into the distance, the crushing weight that had pressed against my heart for years finally lifted.

“So this was your plan all along? Was I just a chess piece in your game?”

Julian’s voice trembled violently.

Of course he was. If I hadn’t attended his birthday gala.

If I hadn’t staged that fall to create a massive media storm, how else could I have lured Nicola back after she had been hiding out in Europe for so many years?

“From the exact moment you set foot back in New York, you had planned every single step of this?”

“Was I really just a tool for your revenge?”

My absolute silence provided Julian with all the answer he needed.

“Julian, are you going to use your power to clear her charges?”

It wasn’t a question; it was a statement. I knew he possessed the influence to make her problems disappear.

Outside the window, heavy snow began to fall, thick and fast.

After a long pause, I finally heard his quiet, resolute promise.

“No.”

The day I prepared to leave New York, I received the official verdict regarding Nicola’s case.

Life imprisonment without parole.

I felt a slight twinge of disappointment; I had honestly hoped she would receive the death penalty.

As I held my boarding pass and walked toward the security checkpoint, Blair tapped lightly on my shoulder.

“Caroline… Julian is here.”

I stood frozen in place, refusing to turn around.

“He’s just standing there staring at you, Caroline. You should go say a proper goodbye to him.”

I let out a soft sigh and turned around, locking eyes with the boy who had once been my only crush across the crowded terminal.

He stood tall and striking, his dark suit perfectly pressed, yet the hand-knit scarf wrapped around his neck looked completely out of place against his luxury attire.

I recognized it instantly. It was the exact scarf I had given him back in college.

He hadn’t lied to me.

He really had kept it.

But I had long outgrown the need for a belated love story.

Some goodbyes never needed to be spoken aloud; a single glance, a single motion, was more than enough to understand each other’s path.

“Let’s go,” I said to Blair.

From this day forward, our paths diverge completely.

Vanishing from each other’s lives entirely was the best possible ending for us both.
