Marked by Loss Chapter 03

Marked by Loss Chapter 03

Landon’s expression darkened, impatience flickering in his eyes.

“Stop this nonsense.”

“You are the Luna I love the most. I gave you all my love. What more do you want?”

“You want to break the mate bond? Have you thought about Harper? How can you be so selfish?”

“Genevieve isn’t well. From today, you and Harper will move out so you don’t frighten her.”

I stared at him in disbelief, the absurdity of it all nearly making me laugh.

“Excuse me? Just because we live in the slums, now we’re an eyesore?”

“You have a luxurious pack house and yet you insist on taking what little space we had left?”

He looked at the figure sleeping on the bed, his gaze so tender it was painful to see.

“She said she felt sorry for me. She wanted to stay where I used to live.”

In that one sentence, all the years my daughter and I had endured became a complete joke.

The warriors ignored our struggles and shoved us out the door.

To survive, I spent my days working odd jobs with Harper and my nights sleeping on park benches, covered in cardboard scraps.

It wasn’t long before Harper developed leukemia from the hunger and cold.

I called Landon hundreds of times, but it was like shouting into the void.

Meanwhile, he spent a whole month trending online after making an outrageous bid at Genevieve’s charity auction.

Furious, I grabbed Harper’s surgery notice and went to confront him—only to find they had long since moved back into the pack house.

When I got there, Landon glared down at me, furious, acting like I was beneath him.

“It’s only been a few days, and you dared lie even about Harper’s life to come back?”

“Genevieve doesn’t have much time. Why do you have to be so selfish and cruel, refusing even to wait these few days?”

“Here’s a million. Don’t bother me or Genevieve again, you hear me?”

He flung a card at me. It grazed my cheek. But I felt nothing.

I stared at him, unable to believe this was the man I had sealed a mate bond with for six years.

He spent three hundred million on Genevieve’s coronation.

He dropped forty million on something she liked.

But when it came to our daughter’s life-saving surgery, he gave only one million.

I went straight to the werewolf court with proof that I was his true Luna, bound to him by our mate bond.

I wanted to expose what he had done, but something shut the case down before it could go anywhere.

Soon after, Genevieve showed up at the pack hospital.

The moment she saw me, she wasted no time in provoking.

“I knew all along you had sealed the mate bond—and you even have a six-year-old daughter.”

“I just played a little trick, and now Landon’s wrapped around my finger.”

“You and your daughter were swept aside, never to set foot in the pack again.”

“You should step down while you still can. I’m his Luna now.”

“Keep pushing, and I’ll make sure your daughter never gets that surgery.”

I snapped. I raised my hand and struck her face.

Landon appeared out of nowhere, shoving me aside.

I slammed into the wall, blood filling my mouth.

He spoke softly to his betas and warriors, ordering them to escort Genevieve out.

Then he turned to me, his eyes cold and merciless.

“I really spoiled you. You actually dared to lay hands on Genevieve?”

“You’re insatiable. A million isn’t enough? Then don’t take a single cent.”

“That card will be frozen. Consider it a lesson for bullying Genevieve. You won’t get another penny from me.”

I gasped, struggling to rise from the floor, almost crying as I begged him.

“No! You can’t… Please, Harper needs that surgery. It’s life or death!”

The commotion woke Harper from her hospital bed.

Her eyes were red from crying, timidly looking at Landon.

“Daddy… Harper hurts…”

His face darkened, disappointment and disgust filling his gaze.

“Harper is only six. How could you teach her to lie?”

“From now on, I’m cutting you off.”

“You’ll get nothing until you admit what you did and promise to stay away from Genevieve!”

He slammed the door and left, never looking back at me or our daughter.

Afterward, I worked with Harper wherever I could, scraping by, keeping life barely afloat.

Her condition slowly came under control with treatment. Until that day…

The thought made my eyes sting. I forced it down and looked straight at Landon.

“Alpha Landon… what will it take for you to finally leave me alone?”

The air fell into a suffocating silence as soon as the words left my mouth.

Landon’s eyes darkened.

After a long pause, he said quietly, “I want to see Harper.”

I couldn’t help but laugh outright.

Harper… he actually dared to mention Harper.

I laughed, and tears slipped from the corners of my eyes.

Landon frowned at me like I’d lost my mind. “What’s so funny?”

“What else? You.”

I wiped the tears from my eyes, my voice thick with resentment.

“Harper is dead.”

“Our daughter died three years ago.”
