Mafia Heir, You Have 60 Seconds to Text Me Back Chapter 04

Mafia Heir, You Have 60 Seconds to Text Me Back Chapter 04

After I unblocked Alec late last night, he invited me to dinner at one of downtown’s most exclusive restaurants and said he wanted me to meet his friends in a couple of weeks.

Floating comments surged across my vision:

[LMAO, the Mafia Heir actually followed the rulebook to a T! He arrived fifteen minutes early for the date just

to wait for her!]

[Wait, it’s date night–why is Clara completely bare–faced without a drop of makeup?]

[Clara’s double standards are wild! She expects the male lead to look polished from head to toe, but couldn’t be bothered to dress up herself!]

[Hey, he made the bet to pursue her, so he better suck it up and deal with it!]

Timing my exit precisely, I stepped out of the dorm lounge to find Alec waiting, faint shadows under his eyes. He’d clearly dabbed on a little concealer to hide how exhausted he looked.

He gave me an aggrieved look.

“Is this really how you dress for our very first date?” he complained, clearly trying not to sound offended.

“You don’t care about me at all!”

Wasn’t a girl supposed to spend hours getting ready for a first date with him?

I looked at him calmly. “Rule 23.”

Alec recited instantly, full of misplaced confidence. “On dates, my preferences come first–food, clothes,

plans, travel. All of it.”

“Relax, it’s only a thousand words–I memorized the whole thing overnight. I didn’t get it wrong, did 1?”

I gave a curt nod and interrupted him in an even voice. “I don’t like stuffy fine dining, and Michelin stars don’t

impress me.”

I paused slightly. “Though Sienna always loved dates at places like that.”

The confident smile froze solid on Alec’s face, a flicker of guilt flashing through his eyes.

Right on cue, Sienna herself stepped out of the dorm elevator.

Floating comments flared up instantly:

[The female lead definitely still cares about Alec! Otherwise why would she keep such close tabs on Clara’s

movements?]

[Sienna specifically invited her cute freshman boyfriend here just to make Alec jealous!]

[Both of them are secretly probing each other’s feelings while acting like stubborn rocks!]

[Is Clara going to reject him again? She’s so high–maintenance! No wonder Alec refuses when she tries to get back together with him later. A mafia prince cares about his pride above all–getting rejected in front of the girl he actually loves will make him hate Clara forever!]

I frowned.

Noticing my expression, Alec assumed I was about to give him the cold shoulder again, an anxious

restlessness creeping into his gaze. As the comments pointed out, he was nearing the end of his patience.

I let my eyes wander across his sharp, unfairly handsome face. After assessing him for a few seconds, I

decided he’d earned a little more patience from me.

Sienna gave us a socialite–perfect smile, though her eyes were pinned exclusively on Alec. “What a

coincidence. Here to pick up your girlfriend?”

She knew full well that Alec hadn’t actually won me over; he was merely lying to his fraternity brothers to

save face.

I had no intention of exposing his lie.

Instead, under his utterly stunned gaze, I stood on my tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss against his cheek.

He’d sprayed a carefully chosen cologne before coming out–a warm, woody scent that was exactly my

taste.

Softening my tone, I murmured a compliment, “I’m not a fan of the restaurant, but I really love the cologne

you picked today.”

I reached out and gently adjusted his silk tie. “It suits you.”

The tips of Alec’s ears turned pink.

Seeing me reach out, Alec immediately caught my hand at once, then shot Sienna a smug look.

“What a coincidence indeed,” he drawled, his voice laced with bitter sarcasm. “Every time I pick up my girlfriend, I bump into you. Talk about bad luck.”

Alec had a sharp tongue and a terrible habit of saying the opposite of what he felt. According to the floating comments, he and Sienna would keep having these petty, childish spats until he got reeled in completely.

I slapped his hand away and frowned. “Who said you could hold my hand? I meant pass your phone over.”

One of my rules let me check my boyfriend’s phone whenever I wanted.

Floating comments chimed in:

[Haha, after agonizing over it all night, Alec spent hours scrubbing his chat logs clean!]

[No matter how thoroughly Clara checks, she won’t find a single thing!)

Sure enough, Alec didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone and handed it over naturally, even tilting his chin up with arrogant pride as I swiped through it. “Go ahead. Search whatever you want.”

Sienna watched the exchange in utter disbelief.

Since when did an heir to the Rossi syndicate let anyone inspect his private phone?

Unable to watch any longer, Sienna forced a polite, sweet smile, linking arms with her freshman boyfriend

who had just arrived at the dorm entrance. “Let’s go, babe.”

Alec rubbed his nose, entirely bewildered as to why Sienna had glared at him before leaving. He still felt that getting his phone inspected in public was embarrassing, but on second thought, it was infinitely better than being ignored with a cold face like before.

After rationalizing it in his head, he asked with renewed confidence, “Done checking? How did I do?”

gave a slow nod. Before he could bask in his pride, I murmured in a sweet, gentle tone, “I just purged your digital life of any lingering female distractions. You’re not going to throw a tantrum over that, are you,

darling?”

“What?!” Alec gasped, a flash of panic crossing his face. “You…”

He almost asked why I deleted Sienna too–considering he was a year younger than her–before Rule 1 abruptly slammed into his head: No talking about other women around me. Your mother counts.

Alec shut his mouth and swallowed his protest.

“I… don’t mind.”

He’d worked far too hard to finally get me; he couldn’t afford to blow it now.

I chose not to expose his tiny lingering feelings, pointing toward the sleek black sports car parked nearby. “Let’s head to the restaurant you chose then.”

Alec blinked in confusion. “I thought you didn’t like it?”

I tilted my head, looking at him with earnest eyes. “If we don’t go, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. After all, you picked it out so carefully.”

His hand paused slightly on the car door handle. He pressed his lips together in a tight line.

The sports car glided smoothly down the tree–lined campus avenue.

After a prolonged silence, he suddenly spoke up, “Clara, what kind of food do you actually like? I’ll take you

next time.”

Floating comments chattered away:

[The Mafia Heir is shockingly easy to tame! One little compliment from Clara and he’s practically beaming! What is he secretly grinning about?]

[Too bad his frat brothers don’t believe for a second that he’d give up Sienna. They’re constantly nagging him to bring Clara out to meet them. I feel so bad for Clara next week…]

[At the frat party next week, he gets dared to make out with someone for sixty seconds–and without even

thinking, he picks Sienna. Clara is about to get DESTROYED.]

The small smile faded from the corners of my lips. My boyfriend trial pass was only good for a single week?

Well, a week was plenty.

Either way, I certainly wasn’t going to be the loser here.

I casually rattled off a long list of dishes from around the country.

“What am I supposed to do? I want all of them.” I smiled sweetly. “Can you have something different

delivered every day? No repeats.”

I added softly,” I’d like them even more if my boyfriend made them himself.”

Alec cut me off hastily, “I can do that! I’ll have our chef make them.”

“They cook way better than I do!”

I feigned a tiny touch of disappointment. “Alright then.”
