Little Miss Revenge Chapter 04

Little Miss Revenge Chapter 04

Isabella was still awake, brushing Sofia’s hair. The girl had fallen asleep in her bed, face still

pinched with anxiety.

Isabella sighed. She kept thinking about that child-Ella. Those dirty cheeks. That trembling little

voice calling Alexander “Dad.”

And those eyes. So much like her own.

Why did my heart just clench?

She shook it off. She’s just a servant’s brat. A liar.

Then she heard it: a soft, muffled sob. Coming from the balcony.

She walked to the French doors and pulled back the curtain.

There, curled in a corner in the cold moonlight, was Ella. Knees to her chest. Shoulders shaking.

Crying like her heart was breaking-but trying so hard to be quiet.

Isabella’s chest ached. Against her better judgment, she slid open the door.

“What are you doing out here?”

Iflinched, looked up with wide, terrified eyes, and scrambled to my feet. “S-sorry, madam. I didn’t mean to… I’m scared to go back. Margaret said she’d lock me up forever.”

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

Isabella’s brow furrowed. “She’s imprisoning you?”

I nodded. “It’s okay. She says I deserve it. Just… please don’t send me away. I don’t want to go to an

orphanage. The other maids say kids there don’t get enough to eat.”

Every word was a needle in Isabella’s heart. A three-year-old begging not to be thrown out- offering to take beatings instead.

What kind of life has this child had?

She softened. “Come inside. It’s cold.”

I hesitated as I walked in, stopping at the edge of the carpet as if afraid of bumping into something. I

My plan was working.

This was the secret I had discovered in my past life: everyone in the Winst family suffered from a strawberry allergy.

I hadn’t even had a chance to investigate before I met my end at the hands of Sofia and Margaret.

I stared at the plate of strawberries. Then I began to tremble again. “Those… those are poisonous, ma’am. Please don’t eat them.”

Isabella froze instantly.

Poisonous? No. But for those with a hereditary allergy-the kind that causes hives and can even be fatal-strawberries are indeed poison. This was a secret known only to the closest family members.

How could this child know about that allergy?

A wild and absurd thought flashed through her mind. It was exactly what Alexander had just thought.

She looked at me. Then she looked at the girl sleeping soundly in the bed-the girl who loved strawberries.

What if…?

Her world spun out of control in an instant.
