Left in the Flooded Kindergarten for His Childhood Sweetheart Chapter 06

Tristan had earned a substantial salary all these years, yet he spent recklessly on performative generosity to keep up appearances.

The car he drove was mine. The apartment we lived in was mine. Every piece of furniture, from the sofa to Anna’s bookshelf and area rugs—every single household item was purchased and paid for by me, piece by piece.

He’d grown so used to enjoying every comfort I provided that he’d long forgotten none of it belonged to him.

Kylie’s expression twisted with humiliation. “You don’t need to humiliate me like this.”

I stared straight at her. “The real humiliation was forcing elderly parents who traveled hours to see their granddaughter to sleep in a cramped storage room, letting a strange little girl take over his child’s bedroom while his own daughter lies sick in the hospital. You’re fully aware of the tension between us, yet still bringing your child to move into our home uninvited.”

Her gaze flickered away guiltily. At that instant, I knew she’d never been an innocent bystander. She’d understood everything all along.

She knew Tristan would always choose her side over mine. She knew I’d hold back from making a scene to preserve our dignity as a family. She knew one tearful plea would make Tristan shift every ounce of blame onto me.

Today, I had no interest in maintaining that false politeness any longer.

The building property manager stepped forward, polite but unyielding, and instructed her to gather her belongings.

Kylie dialed Tristan repeatedly, phone pressed tight to her ear.

No answer, not once.

The practiced distress on her face gave way to raw embarrassment. Paige clung to her suitcase, wailing, “I don’t wanna leave! I wanna stay in this big pretty apartment!”

I glanced over at Kylie. “Kids pick up bad habits far too quickly.”

Kylie shot me an angry glare. I turned away without acknowledging it.

I walked into Anna’s bedroom and stripped every sheet and blanket they’d messed up off the bed, tossing them straight into a trash bag.

The rabbit plush was covered in smudges of chocolate all over its face. I held it in my hands, a hollow ache settling in my chest.

It was the stuffed animal Anna clung to every night to fall asleep—the same toy she’d cried for through her fever dream.

Kylie lingered in the bedroom doorway, quiet. “Kids make messes without thinking. I didn’t realize it meant so much to her… I’m sorry.”

I lifted my head to meet her eyes. “You couldn’t possibly afford something irreplaceable like this.”

Kylie’s cheeks burned red with shame, and scrambled to pack her bags. Paige sat on the suitcase sobbing loudly. Tristan walked through the front door right as she finished zipping her bags.

He took in the chaotic scene and frowned hard. “What’s going on here?”

Kylie rushed over to spill her whole story, voice breaking with rehearsed anguish. “Tristan, I never imagined Nova would react this harshly. I only asked to crash one night, and she brought her lawyer and the building manager to kick me out. Everyone in the building’s seen this—how am I supposed to face anyone now?”

Tristan’s face turned livid with rage as he whirled to face me. “Nova, have you caused enough chaos for one day?”

I slid the divorce petition and preliminary settlement proposal across the dining table toward him. “You will receive the full documentation by end of day. This is your formal notice.”

He froze, staring at the paperwork like he couldn’t believe what he saw. “You’re serious about this?”

“Completely.”

He flipped open the agreement, scanning the clauses about the apartment, vehicle, and sole child custody. His expression darkened further with every line he read.

“What is this nonsense? We’ve been married six years—everything’s marital property now! And hand the car back over to you too?”

“This is my apartment. My car.”

Tristan let out a bitter, disbelieving laugh. “Now you want to divide every single asset like we’re strangers?”
