Last Life She Killed Me for My Rich Husband, This Life I Let Her Have Him Chapter 03

We got married fast, because both my sister and I were afraid something would go wrong if we waited.

Charles gave me a wedding gift of $888,000, along with heaps of gold jewelry. The wedding procession was a line of limited-edition luxury cars that took me to his twenty-thousand-square-foot mansion in Kingswood.

My sister had it worse. Her cars were rented, her dress was rented, hell, and even their home was rented.

As she left, she fumed, “So what if he’s rich? You’re going to lose all your dignity.”

That was hilarious. As if going back to work after marriage would magically give her any dignity.

Right after the wedding, Charles made me quit my job and settle into being a full-time housewife.

“My wife doesn’t need to work. You just keep the house nice. When I come home, I want the place clean, the food hot, and my wife looking good and smelling nice. That’s all I ask.”

I nodded. Fair enough. If you’re taking the money, you do what’s expected.

The day I filed my resignation paperwork, Charles transferred three hundred thousand dollars into my account.

“This is for household expenses this month. I’ll probably only be home six or seven days. You’d better take good care of me while I’m here, because I don’t want to deal with anything around the house.”

“Oh, and if you get lonely, you can get a cat or a dog. I don’t mind.”

As I packed up my desk, I almost teared up. Three hundred thousand dollars. I wouldn’t even know how to spend that much in a month.

No overtime, no networking events, no workplace drama. And I could have pets.

This wasn’t a husband. This was my personal walking ATM. Where else was I going to find a deal this good?

But my coworkers saw it differently. They whispered behind my back.

“Look at Emma Watson. Throwing away a perfectly good job to be a stay-at-home wife. Living off a man’s money.”

“I heard she can’t even choose what to wear at home. And she can’t start eating until her husband picks up his fork.”

“Seriously. College degree and everything, but she’s so short-sighted. She’ll be crying when he kicks her out.”

Hey, I get three hundred thousand a month. What about you? Please. It was all just sour grapes.
