Labor Pain And A Mate Who Ignored My Pleas Chapter 02

Labor Pain And A Mate Who Ignored My Pleas Chapter 02

“What are those?” I shook my head violently. “I won’t take them. Are you trying to kill my pup?”

Dr. Roberts replied flatly, “They’re labor suppressants. They’ll ease the contractions.”

“No. My water already broke. That drug will suffocate the pup.”

Gritting my teeth against the pain, I turned to Thomas.

“Thomas, if anything happens to me and my pup, you’ll be the one to blame. Vincent won’t let this slide.”

A flicker of doubt crossed Thomas’s face. He was about to agree when his phone rang.

It was Vincent.

He answered, listening with deference.

When he hung up, the hesitation in his eyes was gone.

“Alpha Vincent says we wait for him.”

“Forgive me, Luna Fiona.”

He nodded at Uma.

Two maids pinned my shoulders down.

Uma pried my jaw open and shoved the pills down my throat.

I gagged, tried to vomit, but they were already dissolving.

Tears slid silently down my cheeks.

I stared at the ceiling and let out a bitter, broken laugh.

“Fine. Remember this. If my pup dies, I swear I’ll drag every last one of you to hell.”

Beta Thomas frowned and said to Dr. Roberts, “The Luna’s unstable. Give her a sedative. Don’t let her hurt herself or the pup.”

Then he turned and walked out.

I stopped fighting. I let the thick needle sink into my arm.

So this was it. In Vincent’s heart, Unity and her unborn pup meant more to him than his own flesh and blood.

The more desperate I became, the more I regretted ever marrying him.

I used to believe that if I tried hard enough, he’d eventually see me.

But love doesn’t work that way.

Even carrying his pup, I couldn’t earn a shred of his mercy.

I pressed a hand to my stomach. Blood and fluid had soaked the entire bed.

“Vincent. If my pup doesn’t make it, I will never forgive you.”

The drug dulled the contractions, but the bleeding didn’t stop.

I lay there, weak and fading.

Through the fog, I heard Uma say, “Alpha Vincent.”

Hope flickered in my chest.

Had he finally softened?

Had he remembered me and the pup?

I screamed into Uma’s phone with the last of my strength.

“Vincent, get me to the hospital! The pup can’t hold on much longer!”

Uma put the call on speakerphone.

But it wasn’t Vincent’s voice that came through.

It was Unity’s—sweet, syrupy, and dripping with malice.

“Fiona, you’d better hold on. Vincent’s still here with me. He can’t be bothered with you right now.”

My body went rigid.

“Unity, put Vincent on the phone.”

Before I could finish, a hand clamped over my mouth, muffling my words.

Uma smiled obsequiously at the phone.

“Don’t worry, Ms. Valentine. We’ve given her the pills. I’ll follow Alpha Vincent’s instructions to the letter.”

“Good.” Unity’s laugh was bright and vicious. “If she’s still in pain, I know a trick.”

“What trick?” Uma leaned in.

I held my breath, my eyes locked on the phone.

Unity’s voice dropped, cold and venomous.

“I hear the old rogue packs at the border used to have a method. You hang a she-wolf in labor upside down by her ankles to force the pup back up. Then you tie a rope tight around her lower belly. That buys you a few more hours.”

She paused, then added, “And if that doesn’t work, you seal the birth opening. Whatever it takes to keep her until Vincent gets back.”

The room went silent.

I shook my head frantically, but only muffled sounds escaped.

Uma went white, stammering, “Ms. Valentine… that could kill her.”

“Don’t be dramatic,” Unity scoffed. “Those rogue she-wolves survived it all the time.”

She let the words hang, then continued, “Vincent is right here with me. This is his order.”

“He said Luna Fiona needs to learn to stop being so jealous. He also said we must protect my pup at any cost.” She paused. “If you go soft and something happens to me, Vincent will make sure you pay.”

Forgetting the blood, forgetting the contractions, I lunged against the maids’ grip and shrieked, “She’s lying! Vincent would never do this to me or my pup! Uma, don’t listen to her!”

Unity’s voice turned icy.

“Uma, Alpha Vincent is about to break the mate bond with her. Think carefully about who’ll be the real Luna of Ravencrest.”

The line went dead.

I looked at Uma. She was a mother too. I’d always taken care of her pups since becoming Luna.

I couldn’t believe she would do this to me.

Uma was silent for a long moment. Then she spoke to the other maids.

“Let the Luna go.”

Relief washed over me. I reached for her weakly.

But she turned her face away.

“Get the ropes.”
