I’m The Spoiled Princess With Three Dads Chapter 08

Margaret froze on the couch.

“Jonny, this is slander!”

“Slander?” Michael slid a document across the coffee table. “Read this.”

A thick printout. Top sheet in bold: [CRESTVIEW MEDICAL TESTING LAB — INTERNAL COMMUNICATION LOG]

Michael flipped it open, “Three separate tests. Three different technicians. One bank account receiving all payments.”

He looked up. “Account holder: Margaret Hart.”

Margaret gasped, shrinking back. “This—this is forged!”

“Forged?” Michael laughed. “I sent this to the state police last night. The D.A.’s office called me back this morning. From now on, Mrs. Hart, you’ll explain to the police. Not us.”

Margaret’s face went ghost-white.

“And there’s more.” Michael pulled out another sheet. “Sophie Warren’s ID has a father named Robert Warren. Three years ago, he went to prison for embezzlement.”

He looked at Margaret. “That’s your son, isn’t it?”

Not a sound in the room.

Jonathan folded his apron neatly and set it on the table.

“Aunt Margaret,” he said at last. “I’ll give you three options. One: you walk into the police station today, confess, and I’ll let you keep your freedom.”

“Two: you don’t. The police come tomorrow, with cameras waiting outside. Three—”

He paused, his eyes landing on me. “—you touch my daughter again, and I’ll erase your entire branch from the family trust.”

Margaret slid off the couch with a thud. She lay on the rug, mouth open, speechless. Finally, she rasped, “I’ll take the first one.”

“Paige.” Jonathan didn’t turn. “Take Mrs. Hart to the police station.”

Paige nodded and called two security guards. They lifted Margaret and walked her out. The door clicked shut.

Ten seconds of absolute silence. Then Michael stretched long and loud. “Ah,” he said. “That felt good.”

I peeked out from behind Doc Dad.

“Big Dad.”

Jonathan turned. “Yeah?”

“My mom—was she hurt by her?”

I’m five. I never asked about my mother before. The dads never brought her up.

No photos in the house. But I knew that one of the three was my real father.

Nobody knew which. I never asked, because then two of them wouldn’t be. I didn’t want to make them sad.

Jonathan was quiet for a long time. He crouched down and lifted me into his arms.

“Lily,” he said, “your mother was a wonderful person. She passed away giving birth to you.”

“Margaret had it altered the hospital accident report. The truth is—” He paused. “—if they’d used a different monitor, she’d still be here.”

Tears flooded my eyes. Not loud sobs. Just plink—one drop onto his suit collar.

Doc Dad came up behind us and wrapped his arms around both of us. Dad Two joined in. Three grown men circled me, pressing me in the middle.

“Lily,” Doc Dad whispered near my ear, “from now on, we’ll split your mother’s love between the three of us. If that’s not enough, we’ll make it up in the next life.”

I cried until I hiccupped.

But from somewhere near the giant bunny plushie, I heard a soft ding.

I snuck a glance at my tablet. On the screen, a new line appeared:

[Main boss near death. Suggest finishing move.]

I wiped my tears. Fine. Let’s finish it.
