The banquet hall erupted in chaos.

Elaine screamed in disbelief, “Nolan, what did you just call her? How can this woman possibly be your aunt?”

Nolan helped me up from the floor and replied impatiently, “Why can’t she? This is my Aunt Betty! I won’t mistake my own aunt!”

The comments went wild:

[No way! She really is the male lead’s aunt? This is a disaster for the sweetheart!]

[Oh my, so she’s the youngest daughter in the family. Those are usually doted on by the whole family. The male lead might get punished too, not just the sweetheart!]

Elaine’s face turned as pale as paper, and she swayed unsteadily.

Nolan asked me urgently, “Aunt, who hurt you? If my parents and Grandma find out, they’ll definitely…”

Before he had even finished, he seemed to have realized something. He looked at Elaine angrily.

I smirked and confirmed his suspicion.

“Your lovely wife set up a trap to frame me for poisoning the wine.”

I pointed at the trembling Alfred and Sandra behind Elaine.

“Your mother-in-law and the butler are accomplices!”

Seeing the anger on our faces, Elaine immediately cried.

“I’m sorry, Nolan! I didn’t know… I caught the wrong person. I thought she was the one who poisoned the wine. Aunt Betty, I’m so sorry.”

After hearing her explanation, Nolan’s angry gaze gradually softened. He murmured to me, “Aunt Betty, Elaine didn’t mean it. She’s not malicious, she’s just not very bright… Can we deal with this after the wedding? I’ll make sure she apologizes to you properly.”

I looked at him with a cold smirk. I now realized why the family business was facing bankruptcy under him.

“Nolan, you’re such a fool. She didn’t catch the wrong person. She was the one who poisoned the wine!”

Nolan lowered his head awkwardly, avoiding my gaze, and I instantly understood. He didn’t care who did the poisoning, he only cared about the wedding and his own reputation!

I was so furious that I laughed. I raised my hand and slapped him hard.

“I’m leaving! Let your company go bust! I don’t care anymore!”

Nolan instantly panicked. He stumbled to grab my hand and pleaded, “Don’t, Aunt Betty! I can apologize together with Elaine! You can’t let the company go under, I can’t afford the loss…”

I shook him off in disgust just as a furious shout echoed from the entrance.

“You brat! Is this how your mother and I raised you?”

It was my brother-in-law and sister, followed by the real substitute. They politely asked the guests to leave the venue, then closed the door to handle family matters.

When my sister, Susan, saw me all injured, her eyes instantly turned red. She hugged me comfortingly.

“I’ve heard it all from Wendy. You poor girl.”

Wendy was the name of the real substitute.

My sister then raised her hand and slapped Nolan.

“How can you speak to your aunt like that? You should be grateful that a high-achiever like her is willing to return from abroad to save your company. Do you think she has any responsibility to do so? How did I give birth to a son like you?! Your own aunt has suffered such a great injustice, yet you’re siding with an outsider!”

The comments were mocking:

[Don’t feel aggrieved, male lead. Your aunt is the first child your mother raised, you’re just the second child!]

[One is a lovable and talented little sister while the other is a useless son. It’s obvious who she favors. The male lead has no chance!]

Susan deliberately glanced at Elaine to make it clear who she meant by an “outsider”.

Sandra couldn’t let that slide. She stepped in front of Elaine protectively.

“Susan, Elaine is getting married to Nolan. She’s not an outsider.”

My brother-in-law, Andrew Clark, snorted coldly.

“Marry? I can’t accept a daughter-in-law who maliciously frames other people! How dare you bully my sister-in-law? I’ll settle the debt with all of you, one by one! Let’s take a look at the evidence!”
