I’ll Marry His Rival and Burn His Empire to Ash Chapter 29

One year later, Ethan asked Ava if she wanted to know what had happened to Jackson.

Ava shook her head.

“There’s no need. Where he is and how he’s living have nothing to do with me anymore.”

“What about Savannah-Claire?” Ethan asked, holding her close.

He told her that Savannah-Claire had been sentenced to prison for multiple crimes, but after only a few months, she had suffered a complete mental breakdown.

Ava’s reaction was placid.

“That has nothing to do with me either.”

“Then what does have something to do with you?” Ethan’s tone held a hint of laughter.

Not far away, Chloe was walking toward them with a smile. She wore a delicately designed brace on her leg, but her gait was confident and light, with none of the gloom of the past year.

“That,” Ava said, her gaze falling on Chloe, her eyes filled with pure warmth. “That has something to do with me.”

“What brings you here today?” Ava asked, walking up to her.

Chloe handed her an ivory envelope. “An invitation.”

Her face glowed with happiness. “You always wanted me to live well. Now I’ve found my own happiness.”

“Really?” Ava brightened and opened her arms to hug Chloe, about to spin her around.

Ethan’s hand shot out and caught her by the waist.

“Careful. Don’t mess around,” he reminded her in a low voice. “You’re not alone anymore.”

Chloe’s eyes widened. “You’re pregnant?”

Ava smiled and nodded.

“Yes.”

“Then I have to be the baby’s godmother!” Chloe’s tone allowed no argument.

“Of course.” Ava hugged her. “There wouldn’t be anyone else.”

The two women held each other tightly, tears shining in their eyes.

This was the best ending they could have asked for.

As for Jackson, he later sold what little he had left and anonymously established a foundation to help victims of violence.

After that, he went alone to the impoverished communities of the Appalachian Mountains and became a volunteer teacher.

Walking those quiet, rugged mountain roads, looking up at the wide, clean sky, he would sometimes think of Ava.

He wondered how she was doing.

He wondered if she had a child.

And when his thoughts reached that point, he would slowly, gently smile.

A moment later, the tears would come.
