I Was Trapped In An Elevator On My Birthday, But No One Cared Chapter 06

A couple days ago. The elevator. A young woman.

Julian suddenly thought of me.

Two days ago was my birthday. Serena’s birthday.

Before we lit the candles, I’d gone downstairs for a lighter and didn’t come back for ages. I’d told him I was

trapped in the elevator for an hour and called him five times.

Back then… I could have died?

His hand shook as he pulled up the five missed calls.

Then he opened his photo album.

The pictures from that night showed Serena standing under the lights, laughing, glowing. He’d taken more

than seventy of her.

And of me? Just one. A shot a relative had accidentally captured right after I got back from the elevator.

In the photo, I stood in the doorway, my face pale, my fingers gripping the wall for support.

Everyone was looking at Serena. No one was looking at me.

Julian stared at that photo for a long time.

Yesterday, I had cried. And he’d thought I was being dramatic.

Now he could barely breathe.

When he got home, my parents were still in the living room. Serena was there too, her eyes puffy, leaning

against my mom.

“Mrs. Miller, is Mira still mad at me? Maybe I should go apologize.”

My mom patted her hand. “Don’t bother with her. She’s been completely out of line. We spoiled her too much

since she was little.”

Julian stood in the doorway, his voice hoarse. “Mrs. Miller, Mira blocked me.”

My dad frowned and tried sending me a text. But it didn’t go through. His face twisted with fury. “She blocked

me too!”

My mom immediately grabbed her phone and tried calling. Nothing. Her iMessage wouldn’t go through either. The fury on her face finally cracked.

“She actually had the nerve.”

Serena said softly, “Maybe Mira just wants us to worry. She’s done stuff like this before. She’ll come back in

a few days.”

My mom seized on that like a lifeline. “Exactly. She just wants us to grovel! Let’s see how long she can hold

out.”

“Mrs. Miller…” Julian hesitated, but couldn’t stop himself. His expression turned grim. “Do you remember what happened with Mira and the elevator the other day?”

My mom frowned. “I know about the elevator. She got stuck for a few minutes and acted like it was the end of the world, like we’d all personally wronged her. Her dad and I have always let her get away with way too

much.”

Julian clenched his fists. “Mrs. Miller, that elevator almost dropped straight down from the twentieth floor. She almost died that night.”

My mom’s face went blank. “What?”

Julian forced the words out. “On her birthday, Mira almost died.”

Every drop of color drained from my mom’s face.
