I Was the Unwanted Fifth in Their Life and Death Pact Chapter 07

Half an hour later, they burst through the apartment door.

Lily was sitting on the sofa painting her nails. She jumped in shock at the noise.

“Ryan, Evan-what took you so long? I haven’t even had breakfast…”

She reached out instinctively to loop her arm through his.

Evan wrenched his arm away with brutal force.

Lily lost her balance and crashed against the edge of the sofa, her elbow slamming into the coffee table.

“Evan! What’s wrong with you!”

Evan advanced on her, eyes bloodshot with rage.

“Where was my phone at eleven o’clock the night of the crash?”

Lily’s gaze flickered. She bit her lower lip and shrank backward.

“I-I don’t know. We were cutting cake, it was so loud…”

Cole stepped forward and shoved the police call log in her face.

“She sent four emergency alerts, and every single one was manually rejected. The surveillance footage

proves everything. How much longer are you going to pretend?”

Lily’s face turned deathly pale, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“I truly didn’t mean to! I had Evan’s phone connected to a Bluetooth speaker. This big red alert flashed on

screen, screaming at full volume.”

“I was scared it would ruin your mood for the fireworks. I thought it was spam, so I just swiped it away…”

“I swear, I never saw Naomi’s name!”

Cole cut through her weeping, his gaze cold with disgust.

“Save the performance. The police just called. The hit-and-run truck driver has been arrested.”

Lily’s sobs caught in her throat. Her body shook uncontrollably.

Cole took one step closer.

“The driver confessed. Someone paid him a large sum from an overseas account to stage this crash. When the police traced the funds, the account was registered under your name.”

“Lily, you hired someone to kill her.”

All color drained instantly from Lily’s face. She collapsed to the floor.

She scrambled forward, clutching at Evan’s legs.

“Evan, I’m sorry. I just-I just wanted her car wrecked so she’d miss my birthday… I never meant for her to

die!”

Evan looked at Lily, bile rising in his throat.

This was the girl he’d defended time and again, hurting Naomi over and over for her sake.

He slapped himself hard across the face.

“I’m a monster.”

Cole looked down at Lily crumpled on the floor, his voice devoid of emotion.

“I already sent the police this address. The patrol cars are downstairs right now.”

Lily screamed, but none of the men in the room spared her another glance.

Late autumn in Pallavia.

Outside the café below the Pallavia office, Evan and Ryan had been standing for four hours.

At last, the revolving doors of the office building swung open.

Naomi walked out in a long wool coat, leaning on a single cane.

She tilted her head, laughing softly as she talked with a female coworker.

She was still pale, but her eyes held a lightness and calm they’d never once seen on her before.

Ryan lost control and strode forward, blocking her path.

“Naomi!”

Naomi stopped. The smile faded from her lips.

She looked at Ryan, unshaven and red-eyed, then to Evan right behind him.

No flicker of emotion crossed her face.

“How did you find me?”

Her voice was quiet, not a question-just a plain statement of fact.

Evan stepped forward, reaching for the hand holding her cane.

“Naomi, your leg… I’m so sorry. I’ve come to bring you home. We’ll find the best specialists to heal your leg,

please.”

Naomi shifted sideways, evading his touch.

Evan’s hand froze mid-air, his fingertips trembling uncontrollably.

Ryan’s eyes filled with tears, his voice breaking.

“Naomi, I’m sorry. I truly know what I did wrong.”

“We saw the emergency logs. Lily was the one who dismissed the alerts. Cole already called the police, and

they took her into custody.”

“She arranged that crash. I will make her pay for every bit of it.”

Ryan wiped tears off his cheeks and tried to grab Naomi’s sleeve.

“Forgive me, just this once.”

“Mom made me promise to look after you before she died… and I failed you so badly…”

Naomi tapped the cane lightly against the pavement, stopping him from coming nearer.

She turned to her coworker with a quick apology, waving her on.

Once they were alone, she looked back toward them.
