I Was Single Until A Restaurant Handed Me My Mother In Law’s Debt Chapter 02

Zoey’s face had gone livid. She stared at me and suddenly said, “Ms. Carter, I’ve shown you more than enough courtesy today.”

“If you don’t want to be treated with respect, then I don’t have to treat you with respect.”

She looked straight at me as she said it.

I just smiled when I heard that. “I’ve already called the police. We’ll wait for the officers to arrive.”

After saying that, I turned and glanced at the clients behind me.

After all, this was supposed to be a business dinner. Now that something like this had happened, I naturally felt apologetic.

“I’m sorry, everyone. You can go ahead and leave.”

“As for our partnership, we can talk tomorrow.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll handle this myself.”

I told the clients.

They nodded in understanding.

Several clients got up and prepared to leave.

But when Zoey saw that, her entire demeanor changed. Anger flashed across her face as she stared at me and snapped, “No one is leaving!”

“Close the private dining room doors!”

“No one leaves today until this bill is paid in full!”

At her order, the two security guards behind her immediately shut the doors.

The private dining room doors slammed closed.

At the same time, Zoey’s gaze stayed fixed on me.

Her eyes were icy as she looked at me and said, “Ms. Carter, I’m officially warning you. If you don’t pay, no one is leaving this room.”

“Ms. Carter, you’re someone who does serious business. Don’t make things difficult for us.”

Her voice was cold and carried an obvious threat.

When the clients heard that, they frowned and looked over at me.

I knew they were starting to wonder if I was really trying to dine and dash.

“Claire, what exactly is going on?”

“If the bill isn’t too high, we can split it among ourselves.”

A few clients who knew me well looked at me and spoke up.

I only shook my head and placed the $30,000 bill in front of them.

The moment they saw the bill, everyone froze.

Several of the clients’ faces turned grim.

They had eaten here with me many times before, and everyone knew what our usual dinner budget looked like.

But this bill was obviously wrong.

Eight bottles of wine that expensive had supposedly been opened.

That did not even include the liquor and cigars listed on the check.

Usually, when I hosted, they all knew their limits. They would never do something like that.

Seeing the clients’ grim expressions, Zoey immediately looked at me and said, “Ms. Carter, these people are all your clients.”

“You don’t want them trapped in this private room with you, do you?”

“If you don’t pay, none of you are leaving.”

Zoey looked at me as she said it.

I looked back at her. Her face was full of smug satisfaction.

I could tell exactly what Zoey was thinking. She assumed that since I had brought clients with me, I would definitely pay to save face.

What she did not know was that I had an especially good relationship with these clients.

More importantly, I was not about to let her decide what was true just because she said so.

When Zoey first came in, I had quietly started recording video on my phone.

I knew too well that I needed to preserve evidence at a time like this.

“Zoey, I’m not paying this money.”

I looked at Zoey and said, “Also, I have reasonable grounds to suspect that you’re trying to pin this bill on me.”

“And I’ve already called the police.”

“We’ll talk when the officers arrive.”
