I Was Dumped by Four Mate Candidates Chapter 13

The day before the fated–mate ceremony, Lucian took me to Starlake Shore.

It was a small lake. Tucked into the western edge of Greyfang Woods. The water was so clear it was like a mirror. Holding

every star in the sky. The breeze came. Even my wolf went still inside me.

Lucian wore a black trench coat. Walked beside me. His platinum hair nearly silver under the starlight. Violet eyes reflecting the ripples on the lake.

Every so often he’d lean over and ask me the pronunciation of some common–tongue word. Earnest as if he were prepping for a territory–council defense.

“Lucian.” I tilted my head at him. “Your common tongue is already this good. Why are you still studying?”

“It’s not enough yet.”

“What’s not enough?”

He thought about it. Answered very seriously. “I want to be faster. At cheering you up. When you’re angry.”

I burst out laughing.

We walked slowly along the shore. Reeds rustling in the night breeze. A nightingale somewhere in the distance. After about fifteen minutes, a little stall appeared by the path. An old female wolf selling hand–woven bracelets.

Lucian stopped. Crouched down and looked for a long time.

The stall had all colors. Red. Blue. Grey. The simplest style. He picked up a dark red one. Held it in his palm. Studied it. Then

turned to me.

“Do you want one?”

“What would we engrave?”

“My mate.” He said it. Then shook his head. Frowned a little.

“No. You taught me the other phrase. How do you say ‘fated

mate‘?”

I laughed. Crouched down beside him. “Fated mate.”

“Fated mate.” He repeated it. Pronunciation perfect. Still looked unsatisfied. “Too long. Won’t fit.”

The old woman smiled. Handed over a pen. “You can engrave initials. You young people. Two letters works fine.”

Lucian took the pen. Bent his head. Wrote two letters inside

the red cord.

L.S.

Then he handed me the pen.

I froze for a second.

He looked at me. A faint trace of a smile in those violet eyes.

“S.S. Write it next to mine.”

I wrote S.S. beside his name.

Lucian Stormcrest. Sloane Silvermoon.

Two sets of initials. Side by side. On a plain red cord.

“What does this mean?” I dangled the bracelet.

He looked at me. Voice low. Serious. “It means–moon or no

moon. Pack or no pack. You are my fated.”

Heat rushed to my ears. I turned and walked. “You’re so cheesy.”

He caught up. Took the red cord from the old woman’s hands. Held it in his palm. Kept his tone perfectly straight. “Then I’ll

say it again.”

I turned back.

He was already right in front of me. Looking down at me. A few strands of platinum hair stirred by the night wind.

“Sloane Silvermoon.” Every syllable steady. His common tongue had never been this solid. “Will you be my fated mate

forever?”

I looked at him. Remembered a lot of things all at once.

Remembered people calling me their moonlight treasure.

Putting me on a pedestal. Thinking I’d always be beautiful. Always be proud. Never leave.

But I was healthy and proud and strong not because they called me moonlight treasure. I was those things because I

was Sloane Silvermoon. I would hold my own fate.

I curled my fingers around the red cord. Smiled. Nodded.

“Yes.”

The next day, the eternal–bond ceremony took place at New

Moon Hall.

Not every wolf had the right to seal a fated bond here. The New Moon Hall rites were only performed on full–moon nights. Required the territory Alpha’s personal blessing. Alaric stood

at the center of the dais. Elara beside him. Both their

pheromones steady. Unfurled.

I didn’t wear a wedding gown.

Silvermoon tradition. Fated mates sealed their eternal bond in

moonlight attire.

Lucian wore the Thunderbird Pack’s traditional violet battle

robe. The thunderbird totem embroidered on the shoulders.

The eldest elder of the territory intoned the blessing.

“Beneath the moon, the pack bears witness.”

“On this night, Sloane Silvermoon and Lucian Stormcrest willingly seal the eternal fated–mate covenant. Your blood. Your souls. Your wolf bones. Shall intertwine. Until death parts you.”

He said, “I accept Sloane Silvermoon as my eternal fated

mate.”

I said, “I accept Lucian Stormcrest as my eternal fated mate.”

“I do.” His voice was low and steady. Violet eyes never leaving

  1. me.

The words fell. I felt warmth spreading from my fingertips. Lucian’s pheromones. Thunder and cedar. Wrapping slowly around my whole body. At the same time, my Silvermoon pheromones released. Uncontrollable. Twining with his.

The two pheromones intertwined in the air. Resonated.

Emitting a faint silver glow. Every wolf present could feel it.

The resonance unique to fated mates. A soul–deep attunement

that couldn’t be faked.

The elder’s voice trembled slightly. The awe of witnessing an ancient rite. “The resonance is complete. The final rite–”

He stepped back.

Lucian moved toward me.

He looked down at me. His fingertips tilted my chin gently. He angled his head. His teeth found the back of my neck. The most vulnerable place. The most sacred.

His teeth pierced skin. His pheromones rushed in. Coursing through my blood. Through every vein. I felt my body shiver

softly.

Seconds later he pulled back. A thin sheen of sweat on his

brow.

My turn.

I rose on my toes. Hands on his shoulders. Lips to the back of his neck. Marking him. His body jolted slightly. A low grunt

from his throat. The most primal reaction of an Alpha being

counter–marked by his fated mate.

The elder’s voice echoed through the hall. “The moon bears

witness to your vow.”

The pack’s howls rose in unison. The old Silvermoon tradition. The pack howled to salute the newly bonded fated mates.

Alaric’s eyes glistened. Elara had already turned away. Pretending to fix her cuffs. But I knew she was wiping tears.

Lydia sent over a dozen howling emojis.

I’ll keep walking forward. And Lucian will always be at my side.
