I Was Dumped by Four Mate Candidates Chapter 03

I looked at her. “Hello.”

She seemed caught off guard by how calm I was. She fumbled into an apology. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know tonight was your welcome party. I…”

“It’s not your fault.” I kept my eyes on her. “Whoever invited you should’ve told you what this party was before you showed up.”

Silas dropped his book on the table. Hard. His voice came out low. “Sloane. Don’t be harsh with Ruby.”

“What?” I turned my head toward him.

I suddenly remembered years ago. Someone in the territory sent me a love letter. Silas tracked the sender down by scraps of evidence and warned them off. Told them to stay away from me.

He’d said it then: [Sloane Silvermoon isn’t someone just anyone has the right to pursue.]

Now he sat right there. Telling me not to be harsh with Ruby.

My lips curved. “Silas Blackwood. Are you policing how I speak now?”

“I just don’t want you walking back in and wrecking what we have the second you show up.”

“Are you accusing me?” I could barely believe what I was hearing.

Right then, Ruby reached for the Moonweep.

Her glass shattered.

Pale gold liquid spilled over the table edge. Splashed down half her dress.

Flynn reacted fastest. Tissues out. “You okay? Are you hurt?”

Kael was already on his feet checking her hand.

Soren swept glass shards aside. Meticulous. Clearing the mess.

Silas looked at me.

He was wondering if I’d made that glass break. If I was getting petty revenge.

Interesting, my wolf said. You didn’t even howl, and you’re already suspect number one.

Ruby kept apologizing. “I’m sorry. It was an accident—”

“It’s not your fault.” Flynn turned to me like I was the guilty one. “Sloane. She didn’t mean to sit there. She didn’t mean to drink your drink. Don’t hold it over her.”

“Flynn.” I got up and grabbed my clutch. “How many words have I actually said since I walked in?” He choked.

“But in your heads, I’ve apparently been laying traps for this little Omega since the second I walked through the door.”

I let out a breath. Turned around. Left The Howling Terrace.

Lydia chased after me, face red with fury. “Are they insane?”

I touched my hair. Kept my voice even. “Probably.”

She looked at me. Spoke quieter. “Sloane. Don’t be sad.”

I stood in the long hallway of The Howling Terrace. Realized Silvermoon nights weren’t any warmer than anywhere else.

“I’m not sad.” The words came out rougher than I meant them to. “I just don’t get it. I was gone five years, and they forgot the one thing I can’t stand, getting blamed for something I didn’t do.”

My phone buzzed.

A message from an unknown number. One simple line. [How’s the weather over there, my fiancée?]

The people inside The Howling Terrace had no idea.

They were busy protecting an Omega from me.

And I’d already decided to marry the Alpha of another pack.
