I Upgraded To First Class And Downgraded Him To Ex-Husband Chapter 03

I Upgraded To First Class And Downgraded Him To Ex-Husband Chapter 03

That afternoon, I sat in the hotel lobby bar drinking coffee.

My best friend Megan sent me a screenshot of an Instagram post.

It was a grid of scenery photos posted by Caleb.

The caption read: “Taking my two favorite women on vacation. The one who doesn’t know what’s good for her can do some selfreflection.”

In the photos, Patricia wore big sunglasses, and Jenna was in a floral dress.

Both were holding bags of local souvenirs, smiling so wide their eyes were slits.

The backdrop was that touristtrap photo spot by the ocean.

The comments section was buzzing.

Caleb’s aunt: “Caleb is so devoted, taking his mom out to enjoy herself.”

His cousin: “Now this is a good man. Unlike some people who, once married, don’t even acknowledge their elders.”

Caleb replied to his cousin: “What can you do? Some people are just selfish. You can only use the silent treatment to teach them a lesson.”

Megan sent a voice message.

“What the hell is that idiot family doing? You paid for this honeymoon, they crash it, and now they’re throwing shade?”

I replied: “They’re not spending my money.”

Megan: “?”

Me: “I froze the supplementary card and changed the flight. What they’re spending now is probably money Caleb advanced from his credit cards.”

Megan sent a string of laughing emojis.

“Nicely done! You’ve finally stopped being a doormat.”

I put down my phone and took a sip of coffee.

My phone buzzed. Luke sent a message.

“Ms. Mitchell, it’s that eager client I mentioned who needs to register for school. Full cash isn’t a problem. He can use his own connections to go through the expedited channel, but he insists on viewing the property and signing the contract today.”

“Take him there. The passcode for the digital lock is six zeros,” I replied.

“You won’t be present?”

“No. If he likes it, go straight to the agency office to sign the contract.”

“Okay, okay!”

Within half an hour, Luke called.

“Ms. Mitchell, the client loves it! He barely even haggled. He said as long as we can fasttrack the title transfer through the expedited process, he can make the deposit today.”

“Alright, I’ll come over right away.”

I grabbed my bag and walked out of the hotel.

In the agency office, the buyer was a plainly dressed middleaged man.

“Ms. Mitchell, this place has a great location. I won’t beat around the bush with you,” the man said.

“Full cash. Sign the contract and pay the deposit today, then first thing tomorrow morning we close through the expedited channel, okay?”

“Okay,” I nodded.

Luke quickly printed out the contract.

I picked up the pen and signed my name.

The deposit hit my card very quickly.

“Pleasure doing business.” The man extended his hand.

“Pleasure doing business.” I shook it.

Just after stepping out of the agency, my phone rang.

It was an unsaved number.

I picked up.

“Tessa, you’re really vicious!” Jenna’s sharp voice pierced my eardrum.

“You even froze my credit card supplementary card!”

“Just now, I was paying at the dutyfree shop and the card wouldn’t go through. A dozen people lined up behind me watching. I was utterly humiliated!”

I held the phone a little further away.

“That card is under the name Tessa Mitchell,” I said.

“So what! My brother said what’s yours is ours!”

“You unfreeze that card right now, or I’ll throw out all those cheap clothes of yours when I get back!”

I watched the traffic flow on the roadside.

“Throw them out if you want,” I said.

“You think I wouldn’t dare?”

“Do as you please. But a word of warning—your days of freeloading are over.”

I hung up.

Within less than a minute, Caleb called again.

This time he used the landline at the guesthouse front desk.

“Tessa, what exactly do you want?” Caleb’s voice was very low, but you could hear him gnashing his teeth.

“Are you trying to humiliate my mom and sister in full public view?”

“Do you know how long Jenna cried in that store just now?”

“You can’t even bear to buy her a single bag. Has your conscience gone completely missing?”

I stopped at the crosswalk.

The green light came on.

“Caleb,” I said into the receiver.

“You’d better pray your credit card limit is enough to buy your return flight tickets.”

“What do you mean?”

“What I mean is, I won’t spend a single cent on any of you ever again.”

I hung up the phone.

And blocked that landline number too.

I walked into a restaurant I used to frequent.

I ordered the twoperson combo meal.

Every time I used to come here with Caleb, he would always pick out the shrimp for Jenna.

And put the most tender steak slices into Patricia’s bowl.

What was left for me were just a few greens and a bowl of plain rice.

He would say, “You’re watching your weight, eat more vegetables.”

I picked up my fork and dumped the entire plate of shrimp into my own bowl.

I ate every last bit, completely clean.
