He’s grown by leaps and bounds.

He got in because of me.

Yet within just a few weeks, as he accompanied me to all kinds of events, no one dared to speak ill

of his competence anymore.

Still, everyone could see how much help I was giving him.

My secretary, who knew me well, once asked carefullywhether all the time and energy I’ve poured

into grooming him has something to do with how he looks.

She’d met Sullivan. The resemblance was obvious.

I didn’t answer. That was answer enough.

I knew better than anyone how hard Sullivan fought to get where he was. All the failures. All the

setbacks.

If a mentor had recognized his talent and taken him under his wing back then, his path would’ve

been far smoother.

Now I had that power. So the struggles Sullivan went through-Tristan wouldn’t have to.

“You and Mr. Hayes…” She trailed off.

I just smiled and patted her shoulder. Told her not to worry about it.

If I didn’t care about the future anymore, there was no reason anyone else should.

In a way, I was paving the way for his career.

Tristan asked if I’d go shopping with him for a suit.

“Clothes make the man, right?” he said. “I can’t show up and make you look bad.”

I agreed.

But his budget was tight. At most, he could only afford pieces from an affordable luxury brand.

I looked around. Nothing worked. So I took him somewhere else.

“Ms. Vance,” he said quietly. “I really can’t afford this place.”

I laughed. “You think I’d let you pay?”

“I already owe you so much. I can’t let you spend more money on me.”

“Few suits. You said it yourself. You represent me. You’re my image.”

“And I’m allowed to maintain my image, aren’t I?”

I picked out a few pieces. “Try these on.”

The store was quiet. I sat down on the couch.

A sales associate brought me tea. Said I hadn’t been in for a while.

“It’s been a while.”

Sullivan used to love this brand. I was here all the time.

Now someone else takes care of every part of his life, from his clothes to his daily needs. So I

stopped coming.

“We just got a new collection in. Feel free to look around.”

Just then, the door opened.

A woman came in, arm in arm with Sullivan. “Sullivan, what about this shirt? I think it’d look

amazing on you.”

She looked up. Felt my gaze.

Her smile froze mid-laugh, the warmth still lingering in her eyes before it faded.

Sullivan froze too.

At the same moment, Tristan came out in his new fit.

He was dressed exactly to my taste. A dead ringer for a younger Sullivan.

“Ms. Vance, what do you think?” He looked uncomfortable.

I stood up. Adjusted his collar. Buttoned his jacket

Then I smoothed my hand over the sharp shoulder ine of his suit. “It looks perfect.”
