One day, Marcus wore that fake bracelet into the shower. Black dye bled from it.

“Bonnie. Care to explain this?”

Marcus’s lips curved in a smile, but there was no warmth in his eyes.

He was furious.

[Mission activated: Beg and coo for forgiveness.]

I put on my soft, spoiled act.

“But making things hurts my hands, Marcus! Don’t you feel bad for me?”

This time, he didn’t soothe me. He stormed out and slammed the door.

He didn’t come home for days.

I was only a hundred thousand points away from my goal. If he wouldn’t come to me, I couldn’t finish missions.

I heard about a party he was attending that night and headed there myself.

“Marcus…”

I hung back in the doorway, putting on my most helpless, teary look.

Marcus ignored me, letting me stand there alone.

The men at the table grew bolder watching me get brushed aside.

“Selena closed the Shawn Group deal for Parker with just one phone call.”

“He owes her big. Maybe he ought to pay her back with himself.”

“Selena is the perfect match for him. Not some girl who only knows how to cling and whine.”

Their scornful glances drifted toward me again and again.

Marcus acted like he heard nothing.

“Mr. Parker, aren’t you going to fetch your precious pet from the doorway? Don’t tell me you

don’t feel sorry for her.”

Marcus sipped his liquor, voice lazy and detached.

“She’s misbehaving. She can stand there and think about what she did.”

“If that’s the case, why don’t you give her to me? I’ll train her right.”

It was meant as a joke. To everyone’s shock, Marcus agreed.

“Sure. She’s yours.”

The booth went dead silent.

My fingers curled tight, nails digging into my palms.

Marcus stood.

“I’m out. Enjoy yourselves.”

He walked past me, and the system pinged again.

[Mission activated: Plead for rescue.]

I grabbed his jacket sleeve, forcing tears into my voice.

“I’m sorry, Marcus… don’t leave me.”

Marcus ripped my hand off and walked away without a backward glance.

Selena brushed past me, triumphant.

“I’m the only one who belongs with Marcus.”

“You’re nothing but a parasite living off a man. He’s bored of you. Go find someone else to leech from.”

Everyone in the booth watched me like I was a joke.

Inside my head, I was screaming.

The man who’d joked about taking me stepped forward to grab my arm.

“C’mon, baby. You’re mine now.”

I dodged his grasp and drove my boot straight between his legs.

I left the club, skipped the mansion, and booked the next flight out of the country.

To hell with being a delicate pet. I was retired.
