I Thought I Was His Stalker. I Was Actually His Girlfriend Chapter 03

I Thought I Was His Stalker. I Was Actually His Girlfriend Chapter 03

After that, something between Blake and me shifted.

We started talking more, calling each other, sharing little pieces of our days.

Without either of us saying it out loud, we slowly started caring about each other.

But now, every time I remembered Blake saying, “She’s not my type,” my heart sank all over again.

He didn’t like the real me in person.

Whatever closeness we had online didn’t matter.

The next day, Logan messaged me.

[Did you hear me talking to Blake? He asked me to apologize to you for him.]

My chest felt sour, but I forced myself to sound casual.

[It’s fine. You can’t force this kind of thing. It’s not like he’s the only guy in the world.]

Logan thought for a moment.

[I have another friend. Single, good-looking, insanely good at League. Want to meet him?]

I hesitated for a long time before deciding against it.

Dating was exhausting.

At that point, I just wanted to become an emotionless ranked menace.

Logan laughed when I told him that.

“Perfect. This friend of mine does paid duo sessions too.”

Before I could answer, he sent me the guy’s contact.

“He’s ridiculously good. Not any worse than Blake.”

That changed everything.

Ranked game? Let’s go.

The second I added the gaming partner, Blake came online.

Seeing his account light up gave me a bad feeling.

The match loaded.

Sure enough, Blake was on the enemy team.

“Soph?” the gaming partner called. “What do you want to play?”

I shifted awkwardly.

“Just call me Sophie.”

“No way,” he said solemnly. “Hey, this is a service gig. I’ve got to give my clients the full experience. But if Soph feels too weird, I can treat everyone equally and call you babe.”

I had nothing to say to that.

I locked in Lux.

He immediately picked Brand to duo with me.

Then I checked the other team.

Blake had locked in Garen.

To be fair, my duo partner was good.

Very good, actually.

As long as he wasn’t playing against Blake.

The moment Garen charged at Brand again, I hurriedly DMed Blake.

I was one step away from begging on my knees.

[Please. I’m in a ranked game.]

Blake’s pressure eased slightly.

Somehow, he still found time to message me back.

[I got the package. I really like the sneakers. Thanks.]

I had almost forgotten about them.

[You don’t need to thank me. Just stop targeting my Brand.]

My ranked game was on the line here.

Blake went quiet for a few seconds.

[Is this Brand your new hubby?]

[He’s not even that good. Why are you protecting him?]

Protecting him?

I was protecting my rank.

When it looked like Brand was about to get deleted again, I didn’t have time to type.

I started a voice call with Blake.

“He’s just a paid duo partner. I don’t have a new hubby.”

Blake froze for a second in-game.

Garen’s pressure softened, and Brand escaped.

Since I had already said that much, I decided I might as well explain the rest.

“Actually, I owe you an apology. I saw this dating hack online and thought I’d try using it on you. But then I realized it might be kind of ridiculous, and I got worried I was making you uncomfortable. So I decided I should just act normal again.”

Blake listened silently.

On-screen, Garen’s movement slowed, and Brand spread fire across the lane.

I kept going.

“I really didn’t expect the stupid hack to work at all. That’s why I was so shocked when you said we were together. I wasn’t messing with you, and I’m not some player.”

Garen started pacing in circles.

Blake’s voice came through low and steady.

“You didn’t make me uncomfortable. I’m the one who should apologize. I overreacted that day.”

“It’s fine.”

I finally relaxed.

At least I could stop thinking I was the stalker he wanted arrested.

Still, remembering how cold he had been toward me in person, I made up my mind.

“I’ve been thinking about that dating hack these past few days. Maybe the whole thing was just a shortcut. People say twenty-one days can build a habit, but habit doesn’t mean acceptance. It definitely doesn’t mean love.”

“What are you saying?”

Blake was usually so smart.

Now he sounded like he suddenly couldn’t understand English.

Even Garen had become sluggish.

I took a breath.

“I’m saying some habits are basically a scam. Maybe the real-life versions of us just don’t fit. So we shouldn’t waste each other’s time.”

Blake answered immediately.

“How do you know we don’t fit? We haven’t even met—”

“Blake.”

I interrupted softly.

“I’m Sophie Morgan. Logan Morgan’s sister.”

Garen stopped moving.

At the exact same moment, Brand dropped another ability, then chained his ult through the fight—

“First Blood!”

For the rest of the match, Blake was clearly off his game.

When VICTORY finally flashed across my screen, I let out a breath.

Blake logged off almost immediately, like he was running away.

I didn’t feel good either.

But dragging things out would only hurt more.

“Babe.”

My gaming partner called me again.

“You’re actually pretty good. We should play again sometime.”

I snapped out of my thoughts.

“Maybe. I’ve been busy with classes lately.”

He laughed.

“Are you sure I’m older than you? I’m a freshman.”

I blinked.

“Aren’t you Logan’s friend?”

“Yeah. We’re in the same student club. He’s the club president. I’m a freshman.”

I laughed too.

“So you’re just a kid.”

“Exactly, Sophie,” he said easily. “We have a club event in a few days. Want to come?”

“No thanks. I don’t know anyone. I’d just be in the way.”

After I logged out, there were no new messages.

Blake didn’t contact me again.

See?

Meeting in person had made everything awkward, exactly like I thought it would.

I sighed.

A cold, sodden weight seemed lodged in my chest.

A few times, I almost blocked Blake and deleted his number.

I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

The ache just sat there, stubborn and miserable.

For the next few days, he still didn’t reach out.

Adults knew what silence meant.

Sometimes not bothering each other was the goodbye.

I understood that.

So I packed up everything Blake had given me and took an Uber to his university.

The second I got to the entrance, I ran into Logan.

“Sophie?”

He stared at me.

“What are you doing here?”

I tried to look casual.

“Meeting a friend.”

“A friend?” Logan frowned. “Since when do you have friends at my school?”

My eyes darted away as I scrambled for an excuse.

Then a voice sounded behind me.

“Soph?”
