I Stopped Fighting For My Husband and He Panicked Chapter 09

I couldn’t hold back a sob. “Tristan, is being your wife supposed to mean putting up with endless

humiliation?”

Tristan sighed and gently wiped away my tears. “Vivian, why are you still such a crybaby? You’ve been working for so long, and you still haven’t grown up at all.”

I closed my eyes, then slapped his hand away.

“Tristan, I want a divorce.”

“What?”

“I said we’re getting divorced. I’m going to find a lawyer right now and have the divorce papers drawn up.”

With that, I turned and walked away.

Tristan stood there in stunned silence for a moment before his expression twisted with anger. “Vivian! Where

the hell do you think you’re going to go without me?”

I didn’t even look back.

That was when Tristan finally panicked.

Before we got married, I’d made one thing perfectly clear to him. No matter how ugly our fights got, neither

of us was ever allowed to bring up divorce. Once those words were spoken, there would be no going back.

He hurried after me.

Unfortunately for him, the elevator doors closed just as he reached them. He frantically pressed the button,

but nothing happened.

With no other choice, he raced down the emergency stairwell.

By the time he caught up with me, I’d already returned to my desk and started packing my things.

His hair was a mess, and the top two buttons of his usually immaculate dress shirt were undone. He stood

behind me, breathing hard.

“Vivian, stop being so impulsive. At work, results are what matter. You can’t just because…”

SMACK!

I spun around and slapped Tristan across the face.

My eyes were red, and I didn’t care who heard me as I shouted, “Tristan, I told you we’re getting divorced! From now on, if you want to commute with Ivy, go ahead. If you want to live at her place, be my guest. If you

want to cover for her while she frames other people, that’s your business!”

“I’ll never show my face in front of you again. And you can stay the hell away from me, too! Don’t you dare

come anywhere near me!”

I grabbed my belongings and stormed out.

I didn’t care what anyone at the company would say about me anymore. Let them gossip all they wanted!

I

As soon as I got home, I packed my remaining belongings, checked into a hotel, and started looking for a

place to stay.

Then I headed straight to a law firm.

While I was discussing the divorce with a lawyer, a message from Paige popped up on my phone.

[Vivian, are you okay? Want to grab dinner tonight? Hailey has something she wants to tell you. ]

I agreed without a second thought.

My mess with Tristan had dragged them into the middle of everything. The least I could do was buy them dinner and apologize for lying to them about who I really was.

I booked a restaurant near the office myself. Not long after the workday ended, Hailey and Paige arrived.

I’d expected them to act awkward around me now that my real identity was out in the open. But the moment

Paige saw me, she was just as affectionate as ever.

She looped her arm through mine.

“Vivian, you have no idea what happened this afternoon! After you and Mr. Hayes had that fight, the

company’s gossip chats went absolutely wild. Everyone’s digging into your relationship. Now the whole

company knows Ivy Vance is the homewrecker who tried to break up your marriage!”

She leaned closer, practically buzzing with excitement.

“And that’s not even the best part! The scandal was so huge that the company has started investigating what

really happened at that project kickoff meeting. They’ll have the results by tomorrow, and Ivy’s going to get

fired!”

Paige looked at me expectantly.

“Vivian, once they clear your name, the company will probably offer you your old position back. Will you

come back?”

I shook my head.

I genuinely hated the thought of giving up the generous salary and benefits at Hayes Group. But right now, all

I wanted was to put as much distance between Tristan and me as possible.

Paige let out a dramatic wail and downed a glass of lemonade.

“Nooo! My best friend is quitting! Maybe I should just quit, too!”

Just then, Hailey reached into her bag and handed me a business card.
