I Sent Away Every Woman He Loved Until I Became the One Who Left Chapter 14

Tyler was the first to react. He stood and headed for the door. “Grant, we’ll catch up another

time.”

The others followed, one by one slipping past Meredith.

The living room went quiet.

Grant walked slowly up to Meredith and pointed at himself. “Merry, it’s me. You don’t

remember who I am?”

Meredith’s brow furrowed slightly. Her tone was serious and plain. “I don’t remember. Dr. Porter told me to come back to my husband.”

She looked up at him and asked again, “Since they all left, it’s you?”

Grant blinked. “I…”

Meredith pulled out her phone and opened her photo album.

She compared his face to a photo, then nodded. “It’s you.”

Grant looked at her for two seconds, then stepped back.

He walked to the balcony and dialed Dr. Porter.

“Dr. Porter,” he kept his voice low, “my wife’s treatment. Was it a full cure?”

Her answer was professional. “Mr. Keller, the curative protocol for emotional dependency is to sever the source of the pathology.”

“You can observe. See if your wife has completely broken free from her emotional dependence

on you,”

Grant said urgently, “But she doesn’t remember me.”

The line was silent for a few seconds. “…That’s likely a harmless aftereffect.”

“Every time before, when we discussed a cure, she couldn’t bear it. She said she couldn’t forget what happened between you. This time she was very determined.”

Determined.

The word left Grant standing there for a long time.

So long that the call ended and he didn’t notice.

He should be happy.

She was finally well.

He no longer had to face that twisted, suffocating love.

But his steps back into the living room felt like walking through mud.

An indescribable pain rose in him.

He suddenly remembered the worst period of her illness.

At night, unable to sleep, she’d lean on his shoulder and whisper, “Grant, if you ever leave me, I’ll die.”

He’d stroke her hair. “Don’t talk nonsense.”

She’d smile and kiss his chin. “Just kidding. If you don’t want me, I’ll forget you. Completely.”

He’d thought she was being cute.

But now… she’d made her own words come true.

In a completely clear state of mind, she’d chosen to forget him.

The good and the bad, the hot and the cold, the fights and the silences. She’d wiped it all clean.

He hesitated, pushed open the living room door, and wanted to say, “Then let’s start over.”

But Meredith was already standing in the entryway with her suitcase.

“Merry?”

“Where are you going?” His voice sharpened. “You’re sick. Don’t run around.”

Meredith glanced back at him.

Her gaze and tone were flat. “We’re getting divorced. Why do you care where I go?”

Footsteps came from the hallway.

A man in a gray coat walked over.

He naturally took the suitcase from her hand. “All done?”

“All dune,” Meredith said. “Let’s go.”

Grant looked at the man’s profile and suddenly snapped to attention. “Wait.”
