I Saw The Comments Predicting My Divorce And Fired The Cause First Chapter 01

[Babe, my suede shoes can’t get wet. Come get me? Hurry!]

I hit send, and comments lit up in the air in front of me, scrolling through the rain.

[God, this high-maintenance girl is insufferable. The ML is a full-on billionaire CEO and she treats him like her personal errand boy.]

[Willow’s already at the company. Once the ML gets a taste of a woman who’s actually sweet and reasonable, this one’s getting dumped SO fast.]

[LMAOOO after the divorce she’ll have zero skills. Her only career option is an OnlyFans model.]

Every word hovered in front of me, dripping with venom. My fingers curled into fists.

Miles Sterling came running, umbrella in hand, rain already darkening one side of his tailored suit.

His gaze dropped to my white knuckles. He hesitated, then gently tugged at my sleeve.

“Sorry, baby. If I’d gone any faster, I would’ve gotten pulled over.”

***

The comments kept coming, streaming across my line of sight.

[The fact that this high-maintenance nightmare gets to be married to the ML while Willow exists?? Make it make sense.]

[Just wait. Once the ML and Willow get together, he’ll finally know what real love looks like.]

[The harder she flexes now, the more satisfying it’ll be when she crashes. I literally can’t wait.]

True love?

When I was living with him in a basement apartment, splitting one bagel so it could last two meals, where was Willow Finch then?

When I sold the house and every piece of jewelry my mother left me, just to keep his company from going under, where was she?

Now that Miles was a billionaire CEO, she showed up to collect?

Like hell.

“Hey, your hands are freezing. What’s wrong?”

He wrapped both hands around mine, rubbing warmth into them. The crease between his brows deepened, and when he spoke, his voice was soft, almost cautious.

I looked up at him, at that perfect, clueless face, and all I could think was one thing.

Someday, he was going to toss me aside for another woman and leave me with nothing.

I pulled my hand back.

“I’m not going home. Take me to the office.”

Miles blinked. “The office? Why?”

“I’ll wait for you to finish up. We can head home together.”

His whole face softened, eyes crinkling at the corners.

“Okay.”

The second we walked in, his secretary intercepted us. He was due in a meeting.

“Head up to my office, okay? I’ll be quick.”

He rushed off. I took the elevator up alone.

The moment I opened the office door, I spotted them: a bag of oranges sitting on the desk. Fancy ones, individually wrapped.

Bright, perfect, obviously expensive.

I reached for one.

The comments went nuclear.

[HANDS OFF. Willow bought those for the ML. They’re premium easy-peel mandarins, $25 EACH!!]

[She lives off cheap instant ramen for herself but spent $25 per orange for him. That’s REAL love, not whatever the ex-wife is doing.]

[Willow’s love is the real deal. The ex-wife? That’s not love. That’s just entitlement.]

Twenty-five dollars. Per orange.

Someone was feeling generous.

I grabbed the bag and walked out to the bullpen, holding it up for the room to see.

“Who left these on my husband’s desk?”

A girl near the back stood up slowly: low ponytail, big eyes, giving off pure don’t-hurt-me energy.

“I… I bought them.”

Her voice was barely above a whisper. “If you don’t want them, Mrs. Sterling, I can just take them to the breakroom. I saved up for them, but…”

The shift in the room was instant. Every pair of eyes swung to me, and not one of them was friendly.

The look said it all. The girl was being sweet, and here I was, acting like I owned the place.

I wasn’t angry.

I held up the bag and smiled.

“Oh, you’ve misunderstood.”

“These oranges are incredible. As they should be for twenty-five dollars a pop.”

The room shifted again. This time, the looks slid toward Willow, and they weren’t so sympathetic anymore.

Willow’s face went scarlet. Her mouth opened to say something.

I didn’t let her.

“You’ve all been putting in long hours lately, and I appreciate it. I’m having these same oranges delivered for everyone. Stop by the front desk before you leave and pick up a box.”

The whole floor erupted.

“Mrs. Sterling, you’re amazing!”

“Thank you so much!”

Willow’s smile died. Her fingers twisted into the hem of her blouse, knuckles bone-white.

The comments surged back.

[Tch, buying loyalty with the ML’s money. Real impressive.]

[Spending his money is literally her only move. Once the ML sees what Willow’s really like, this woman’s days are numbered.]

[Exactly. Willow’s the real FL. Everyone knows it. Enjoy it while it lasts, girlll.]

I turned to her.

“I’m sorry. What was your name?”

“Willow. It’s… it’s Willow.”

I nodded, turned, and walked back to the office without another word.

Miles showed up a little while later.

He came through the door grinning. “Hey, so I heard you just…”

“Fire Willow.”

His grin faded.

“What?”

“I said, fire Willow.”
