I Risked My Life to Awaken My White Wolf for Them, Then Learned It Was a Prank Chapter 02

Ivy immediately aimed the camera at my mouth.

“She’s literally scared speechless!”

“Listen to how heavy her breathing is.”

“Now that’s what I call immersive prank content. Best Actress Nora, say something for the stream.”

I turned away from the lens.

“I’m a little tired. I just need a break.”

My mother’s face fell instantly.

“A break? What for?”

“We stayed up half the night putting this together. We haven’t even eaten dinner.”

“There’s still a grilled fish in the kitchen. Go finish it up.”

“Ivy has a weak heart. She can’t stay up late. She needs to rest after eating.”

Mason chimed in too.

“Don’t act like it’s that serious.”

“It was just a joke. You’re putting on this dying act to make us all feel guilty?”

I stared at my brother—the one currently in Pack warrior training.

To pay for his training fees and community college tuition, I’d given up my own education after high school and worked two jobs.

Every time my paycheck came in, I kept only the bare minimum for myself.

And now, he was annoyed that I made everyone feel guilty.

A sharp cramp seized my stomach.

I doubled over, cold sweat dripping onto the wood floor.

Adrian reached out to steady me.

“Nora, do you really have to take the act this far?”

“I’ve already explained it. How much longer are you going to keep this up?”

I lifted my ashen face.

“I’m not acting.”

My mother snorted and turned toward the dining table.

“Whatever.”

“She’s been using ‘not feeling well’ to get attention since she was a kid.”

“Let her keep performing. I want to see how long she can keep it up.”

The smell of grilled fish and herbs drifted into the living room.

In the end, Ivy played the good daughter and carried the fish to the table.

I sat closest to the door, breathing in shallow gasps.

The potion was forcibly tearing open a mental barrier that had been sealed for years. Deep in the core of my consciousness, I finally heard the faintest howl.

My white wolf was awake.

But she was too weak. She watched me through a scorching white mist, and asked sadly, [Where’s the danger?]

I couldn’t answer her. Because there was no danger at all.

The family who’d tricked me into believing there was were now gathered around the long table, celebrating their livestream hitting a hundred thousand viewers.

Ivy clutched her phone, too excited to even eat.

“Mom, a brand reached out to me!”

“The video blew up. They want me to do a promotion.”

My mother beamed, placing the most tender piece of fish belly on Ivy’s plate.

“I always knew our Ivy had what it takes.”

“Not like some people who can’t even take a joke.”

She didn’t bother hiding her disgust for me.

Mason raised his glass and grinned at Adrian.

“Alpha, that push you gave my sister was so convincing.”

“The livestream chat is calling you the worst man alive.”

Adrian took an unconcerned sip of wine.

“Let them talk.”

“Controversy drives traffic. As long as your account takes off, a few insults won’t kill me.”

He said it like some noble sacrifice.

I watched him quietly. Seven years ago, our pack—Silverpine Pack—broke out in a succession dispute.

Adrian had just taken over as Alpha, and several elders had joined forces with outside rogues to challenge his rule. He was ambushed at the border, his pack bond nearly shredded.

I released the full power of my white wolf to stabilize his pack bond, then held off the enemies pursuing him alone.

After that night, my white wolf fell into a deep sleep.

Adrian kept his position as Alpha.

I still remember how he held me after it was over, crying like a child. He swore he’d never let anyone push me toward danger again.

And yet, just now, he was the first one to shove me forward.

I breathed slow and steady.

Maybe I should run. Turn into a wolf and go see our ancestors.
