I Refused To Be His Second Best Chapter 04

I moved back to the school dormitory.

After I settled in, I still went to the hospital to visit Faye.

I hadn’t expected to run into Stellan there.

He glanced at me—briefly—then looked away.

Faye noticed the tension.

“Odessa, are you two fighting again?”

“Was it because of your birthday? It’s all my fault.”

“I had to get sick on your day. I’m sorry—can you forgive him just this once?”

I reached over to tuck her blanket.

“We’re not fighting. We broke up.”

She shifted in surprise.

My elbow accidentally brushed against her wound.

She winced.

Before I could apologize, Stellan stormed over and shoved me back.

“She just had surgery. Can you be more careful?”

I stumbled back, my hip hitting the corner of the table.

A dull pain shot through me.

I caught my breath.

When I looked up, he was already at her bedside, frowning, checking on her.

He didn’t look at me once.

“Sorry,” I said, my voice tight. “I didn’t mean to.”

Faye winced, pale but still managing a smile.

“It’s fine. The pain will pass.”

She patted Stellan’s arm.

“Don’t be so harsh. She didn’t do it on purpose.”

I didn’t stay.

I made an excuse and left.

Through the door, I caught fragments of their voices.

Faye urging him to come after me.

Then Stellan’s reply:

“She wants to break up?”

“Fine. You don’t need to beg her for me.”
