The next day, I acted like nothing happened and brought Declan his coffee upstairs.

I set the tray down and turned to leave.

He took a sip, hesitated, then stopped me. “Do you want to be my ‘arrangement’?”

I blinked. “Arrangement?”

He explained, “In my circle, we don’t say ‘girlfriend.’ We say ‘arrangement.'”

I was lost.

Is “sugar daddy” really that hard to say?

He put down his coffee and stood up.

Light streamed through the window, hitting his face. He looked sharp, elegant.

“What I mean is, fifty thousand a month, you move into my place. Would you be willing?”

I touched my face. So this is what I’m worth?

I said, “Does this ‘arrangement’ require anything?”

Declan thought for a moment. “Still the same assistant work, just a different office. Keep posting on Instagram—no blocking me.”

“What about my health insurance and 401k?”

Declan hesitated. “…Yeah, I’ll still cover those.”

I agreed. Because he was offering way too much money.

But since when did free lunch exist?

Walking out of the office, I felt something was off.

While a coworker was slacking off in the break room, I asked her, “Do I look like someone?”

She stared at me for a long time and said I kind of resembled the CEO’s “one that got away.”

She didn’t want to go back to work, so she spilled the tea.

Declan’s unrequited love was in German studying engineering, graduation nowhere in sight.
