I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 06

I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 06

“I know what gift to get him.”

Early the next morning, I slipped out quietly right after Elias left for work.

The System kept badgering me about what I intended to buy, but I refused to say a word.

Just as I reached the mall entrance, a stranger sloshed coffee all over me.

[The plot is kicking off! You’re sneaking out out of vanity to charm rich men, batting

your pretty eyes to lead them on everywhere.]

Sure enough, the man who’d bumped into me froze, his eyes locked onto me.

The System told me his name was Kian, the wealthy heir I was meant to get close to

after divorcing Elias in the storyline.

Kian put on an apologetic act, invited me to lunch, and bought me an entirely new set of

clothes.

Before we parted, he generously transferred me five thousand dollars to make up for the

fright.

I detested Kian’s slick, greedy stare, as if I were some trivial trophy already within his

grasp.

The System sounded thoroughly elated,

[Finally, back on track! Your side piece is here, the divorce arc is just around the corner. So hurry up and play your part, string him along properly, and we can wrap this mission up!]

“You really have a nasty way of talking.”

The System paid no mind,

[I’m just being honest. Hey, weren’t you going to buy a gift? There’s your money right there. You whine about my tone, but I don’t even complain about all your silly pointless antics. You’d be far better off humiliating the hero than wasting time on these useless

gifts.]

Pointless? How could buying a gift be pointless at all?

I hated the System’s tone, and its careless, indifferent way of speaking even more.

It only ever called Elias ‘the male lead’, rigidly forcing me to follow the plot by the book.

It never noticed the fresh overlapping scars covering Elias’s arms and shoulders,

and it never cared how sharp and hurtful the lines it forced me to say really were.

I was about to ask if something was wrong when I heard his quiet question,

“Where did you get the money?”

I could never read Elias’s eyes. He always seemed to carry a storm of unspoken thoughts

inside,

wearing a cold, tough exterior that seemed to soften a little only for me

never did at all.

I froze under his question, unable to come up with a single reply.

or maybe it

[While you were cozying up to that rich heir, the male lead was hauling cargo right

across the road.]

The System sounded thoroughly smug and gleeful,

[Using money from your suitor to buy him a gift. Well, isn’t that robbing the rich to help the poor?]

Across the road?

That meant Elias had seen the money transferred to me.

Had he seen me with that wealthy man, while he was working himself to the bone for

me?

“Where did you get the money?”

Elias asked again.

He almost never spoke to me with such stern insistence. I flinched in fright, staring at

him helplessly without a word.

Elias noticed my fear. He closed his eyes, and the sharp edge in his manner faded away,

“I’m not scolding you. It’s just… this coat is too expensive. Did you use up all your

savings on this?”

I had no savings to begin with.
