I Planned My Exit The Moment His Loyalty Score Began To Fall Chapter 01

I can see everyone’s Loyalty Percentage above their heads. Once it drops below 60%, I know the relationship is beyond saving.

The day my dad cheated on my mom, his Loyalty Percentage dropped from 69% to 23%. When he later drove my sister out of the house, it fell all the way to 7%.

So, whenever I dated a jerk later on, I was always able to spot it and leave in time.

Until I met Ethan.

His Loyalty Percentage toward me has always been 100%.

I thought I’d found true love, but on my daughter’s third birthday, he missed her birthday celebration.

When he came home that night, his Loyalty Percentage had suddenly dropped from 100% to 87%.

I thought, I guess I should start planning my exit again.

I stared at the 87% Loyalty Percentage above Ethan’s head, thinking I must be seeing things.

After all, I’d been dating Ethan for five years, married to him for five years—a full ten years.

His Loyalty Percentage had always been 100%.

Ethan noticed me staring straight at the top of his head and asked with a smile, “What are you looking at? So engrossed?”

I snapped out of it and casually said, “Nothing,” but my chest felt tight and heavy.

Our daughter Luna still had her birthday hat on; she was holding the doll in the gift box that Ethan had bought for her, her eyes crinkled with laughter.

“Mommy, look! This is the birthday present Daddy gave me!”

I crouched down and stroked her cheek. “It’s so pretty!”

Luna sat on the carpet and began unwrapping the toy box; her loyalty percentage had always read 100 percent. So, there was nothing wrong with my eyes.

The problem was Ethan.

For my daughter’s birthday, I’d arranged with Ethan a whole month ago that we’d celebrate together, and he’d promised without hesitation.

I even reminded him about it a week ago.

He didn’t spend her birthday with her last year, so he absolutely had to make it up to her today.

He agreed.

Even last night before bed, when our daughter held Ethan’s hand and reminded him not to be late the next day, he gently tickled her nose and said he definitely wouldn’t be late.

But then, a little after 6:00 p.m., Ethan texted me saying he had an unexpected work issue and wouldn’t be able to make it on time.

Something came up?

What could it be?

What could be so urgent that only he could handle it?

But I didn’t dare ask. All I could do was tell him to try to come back as soon as possible.

And Ethan really did keep his word.

Just after 8:00, he knocked on the door, bringing my favorite food, along with the Barbie set he’d promised to give Luna.

He hadn’t changed a bit—he kissed my forehead as soon as he walked in, then handed the gift to Luna, picked her up, and gave her a kiss.

If it weren’t for the changed number on his head, I would’ve truly believed he’d missed our celebration because of overtime.

Ethan said he was a little tired; he took off his jacket and tossed it on the couch, then got up and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

I picked up Ethan’s suit jacket, noticed a long strand of hair on the collar.

I have short hair—that strand wasn’t mine.

I looked up toward the bathroom; the door was tightly closed, and the sound of running water could be heard from inside.

I thought to myself, I should leave this man.
