I Moved 1,500 Miles Away, Now You Can Favor Her Openly Chapter 04

Diane shoved me to the floor and pressed a hand over Chloe’s cut, her face full of anguish.

Chloe leaned against Ethan, tears dripping down her face.

“Don’t blame Hannah. I lost my balance. She didn’t refuse it on purpose…”

The relatives around us immediately looked at me with reproach and disgust.

I stood in the mess like a complete outsider.

So I walked out of the party.

Early the next morning, I sat up against the headboard and checked my phone out of habit.

The top post trending in our area on X was titled [Toxic Sister Bleeds Her Twin Dry Over an Accident Ten Years Ago].

In the post, Chloe shared a photo of her bloody calf and accused me of using my hearing loss to psychologically bully the whole family for ten years.

The comments under it were full of vile insults.

Stone-faced, I opened my own account, ready to set the record straight.

Right then, Mason pushed the door open and came in.

When he saw my screen, he pinned my hand down, sounding exasperated.

“Hannah, Chloe was frozen out for ten years, and she’s only now getting the family’s love back. Of course she’s insecure. She wants to show everyone she matters.”

“You’ve always been the mature one. Can’t you cut her some slack for once? Do you have to blow this up and embarrass the whole family?”

Looking at Mason’s self-righteous face, I found the whole thing beyond absurd.

“So to prove she’s loved, I deserve to be lied about and torn apart online?”

I flung his hand away. “I’m not forgiving her, and I’m definitely not taking the fall for her.”

With that, I went to hit post.

Mason’s face darkened at once.

“Hannah, when did you get so selfish and vicious?”

He snatched my phone away.

I had never kept my passcode from him, and now that only made it easier for him.

“If you won’t think about the family, then I’ll handle it for you!”

A few minutes later, he tossed the phone back into my lap, his face cold.

I looked down at the lit screen.

My account had posted something new. It was an apology statement.

[Because of my hearing loss, I’ve had low self-esteem and a twisted mind for a long time. Whenever I see how healthy and talented my sister is, I can’t control my jealousy.]

[Last night, I knocked the glass over on purpose and got my sister hurt. Thank you to my family for being so understanding. I promise to get proper treatment from now on.]

I stared at the post, my fingertips ice-cold.

When Diane saw the statement online, she didn’t blame Mason for posting it in my name. Instead, she looked relieved.

“Hannah, your brother posted it for your own good.”

“People online always side with the underdog. If you say you have mental health issues, they’ll forgive you.”

“But if Chloe gets blamed for this, how is she supposed to hold her head up at college?”

I looked at the people I had called family for eighteen years.

So that Chloe could start college with a clean slate, they had personally slapped the ugliest label there was on me.

My eyes were red, and my voice shook.

“So as long as she gets a clean start, I can be a twisted psycho. Is that it?”

The room went dead silent.

Something complicated flickered in their eyes, as if they finally felt a sliver of guilt that came far too late.

Diane stepped forward and tried to take my hand.

I pulled away from her and sat back down on the bed without a word.

Where they couldn’t see, I hit save on the recording app on my old backup phone.

I dragged that recording, full of their fake “it’s for your own good” lines, into a folder called [Judgment Day], along with my old allergy records.

They had no idea what was coming.
