I Lost 90 Pounds, Only To Find He Tried To Give Me Away Chapter 07

I walked right past him and found a seat.

The guy next to me turned pink and scrambled to pull out the chair next to him for me.

Someone else poured my water.

Funny how attentive guys could be when they decided you were worth the effort.

Once they were done staring at me, every head in the room turned toward Nolan.

Some looked confused. Others were clearly enjoying the show.

I caught bits of the whispers.

“No way. He had a girl like this and gave her away? What was he thinking?”

“Seriously. Sienna’s cute, but she’s not even in the same league.”

“Nolan’s gotta be kicking himself right now.”

Nolan heard. His fist tightened on the table, knuckles going white.

The buzz-cut guy took a sip of water. “Tessa, how come you never posted a selfie in the group? You would’ve

been the campus It girl, easy.”

Next to him, Sienna’s grip tightened on her cup.

“I don’t really post selfies,” I said.

A girl leaned forward. “Have you always looked like this?”

She caught herself immediately. “Wait, I didn’t mean… what I meant was…”

“No.” I kept my voice even. “I used to be heavier. I lost the weight because I wanted to look good when I met

my online boyfriend.”

Nolan’s jaw clenched.

A voice cut in. “Nobody looks like that naturally. Who knows how much work she’s had done?”

It was one of Sienna’s friends, sitting right beside her.

She rolled her eyes at me. “Sienna’s all natural. She’s not built out of plastic.”

Sienna smirked behind her cup.

I smiled. “You seem to know a lot about going under the knife. Makes sense, though. Your lip filler looks like

it was done in somebody’s kitchen. Did your injector ghost you before the follow-up?”

“I’m all natural, but I’d be happy to recommend a better medspa for you. Yours clearly wasn’t it.”

The girl’s face cycled through three shades of red. When she finally spoke, her voice was shaking.

“With a face like that, you’re just loving the attention, aren’t you? What a massive pick-me.”

Before I could respond, another girl beat me to it.

“That’s not cool. Tessa seems perfectly nice to me. You’re just jealous she’s hotter than you.”

“Exactly.” Before I could say another word, more voices chimed in.

The girl pressed her lips together and went quiet.

The rest of the meal passed in loaded silence, everyone lost in their own thoughts.

Nolan wouldn’t stop staring at me. And he kept trying to start conversations.

“Tessa, where are you from?”

“That online boyfriend of yours… do you actually know the guy? There are a lot of creeps online. You should

be careful.”

“You just got here, right? You probably don’t know the area. I drove here. I could show you around tonight if

you’re free.”

When he grabbed the last crab cake from the appetizer platter and set it on my plate, Sienna finally lost it.

“Nolan!” She barely kept her voice down.

He turned around like he’d just remembered she existed.

“What?”

Sienna pointed at the plate. “I wanted that.”

“Then you should’ve grabbed it faster. Why do I have to do everything for you?” He didn’t even try to hide the

irritation.

“You can have it,” I said to Sienna. “I don’t eat anything someone else shoved onto my plate anyway.”

Sienna shoved her chair back and walked out. Her eyes were already red.

The entertainment value was wearing thin.

I pushed my plate away, stood up, and grabbed my bag.

“I’ve got somewhere to be. I’m heading out.”

I walked out without looking back.

I barely made it to the entrance before someone called my name.

‘Tessa!”

I turned around. Nolan was behind me. Not chasing Sienna. Chasing me.

“How are you getting home?” He stepped closer. “Let me drive you.”

He clicked his key fob.

A black Porsche 911 chirped as its headlights flashed at the curb.

I was about to say no when a black Mercedes G-Wagon pulled up right behind it.

The window rolled down. Theo.

“I’m here, babe. Get in.”

I turned back to Nolan. “My boyfriend’s here. Thanks, though.”

Something shifted in Nolan’s face. “Boyfriend? The online boyfriend?”

I gave him my brightest smile. “Yes.”

Then I turned my back on whatever expression Nolan was making and walked away.

I got into Theo’s car.
