Miles was the first one to react.

He tried to rush over and pull Serena down, but I clung to his arm like a frightened bird.

My eyes reddened, and I looked as if I could not believe what was happening.

“Serena, if you’re angry with me or upset about something, you can just say it.”

I looked at her, my voice shaking.

“Miles is my fiancé, and you’re my best friend from college. If the two of you were sneaking around behind

my back, then you’d both be worse than animals. Even animals have more decency than that.”

The moment I said that, I felt Miles’s body stiffen.

I did not lift Miles’s shirt.

I did not rush to deny her words either.

After a long silence, I turned to look at Miles.

Then I gave a self-mocking smile.

“So that’s why you’ve been sleeping in the study these past few days?”

Miles met my eyes.

When he saw the shattered look on my face, something like agony flickered through his gaze.

“Elena,” he said, “I never meant to hurt you.”

Hearing Miles admit it with his own mouth, Serena secretly let out a breath of relief while holding the

microphone.

The truth was, she had not been that sure Miles would stand on her side.

But now, she smiled.

“Elena, Miles and I have loved each other since college. I stepped aside because you were my friend. Don’t

you think it’s time you return him to his rightful place?”

I picked up the velvet ring box beside me.

I was just about to shove it down her trashy throat.

But before I could, Miles turned his head and glared at her.

“Enough, Serena,” he said curtly. “I’ll say it one more time. In this relationship, we both owe Elena an apology.”
