I Let Him Marry Me So I Could Expose Him At The Wedding Chapter 03

After Miles replied to my comment, my inbox filled up with filthy messages.

Those self-righteous strangers probably thought I was the same kind of trash he was.

I did not care. I was just about to close the app when I noticed I had a new follower.

It was Miles.

A second later, he slid into my DMs.

[Sorry. I dragged you into this and got you harassed too.]

I blinked, then sat up straighter in bed.

Maybe I could get something out of him. Something I did not already know.

[It’s fine. I just don’t understand something. If you’re still willing to marry her, that means you must still care about her at least a little. So why do something like this?]

Maybe it was because I was a complete stranger.

Maybe the things he had been holding in for so long finally had an outlet.

Without the slightest guard up, he told me the truth.

[Honestly, before I got together with my girlfriend, I had already confessed to the woman I really liked. She turned me down. So to stay close to her, I started dating her roommate.]

[All these years, whenever I saw her, my girlfriend was there too. We never contacted each other privately. This time, I saw her again because she came to be my girlfriend’s maid of honor.]

[After dinner that night, my girlfriend went to the powder room. She suddenly leaned over and whispered to me that she was single now.]

I did not know what kind of expression I had while reading those messages.

After I realized Miles was gone, I had thought that at least, for these seven years, we had loved each other once.

Maybe time had worn him down. Maybe he had gotten bored, tired, tempted by something new.

Some relationships changed the longer they lasted.

Sometimes, even a small fight repeated too many times could become the reason everything fell apart.

But now the truth was telling me that Miles had been calculating from the very beginning.

The love he gave me had never been pure.

That was why his betrayal had come so suddenly, so easily.

I wiped the tears from my face and kept typing with trembling fingers, pretending I was calm.

[You’re pretty awful. Your girlfriend is pathetic for loving you.]

After I sent that, he did not reply for a long time.

I thought he was angry.

Over the years, Miles’s success in business had made him colder and colder. He did not like being contradicted.

I was just about to turn off my phone when a new message came through.

[Yeah. I’m a bastard.]

[That’s why when she said, as a friend, she wanted my girlfriend to know the truth, I didn’t agree. I know how much my girlfriend loves me, so I want to make it up to her with a wedding.]

Loves him?

Yes.

Whether in my own mind or in the eyes of everyone around us, I had always been the one who loved Miles more.

Back in college, Miles had been a strapped-for-cash student from the countryside.

Even though he was the student body president, the campus heartthrob, a local legend, the first round of startup capital he used after graduation came from the money my parents had saved for my dowry.

Because of that, I barely spoke to my parents for six months.

My friends tried to talk sense into me too.

They told me it was only a relationship. I should not end up losing both my heart and my money.

But Miles had proved himself capable. He had also seemed grateful.

After his company started turning a profit, he gave me thirty percent of the annual dividends every year.

Everyone said I had made the right bet.

They said I had found myself a blue-chip partner.

But if I had known his true motive from the start, I would never have given him a single dollar.

Because he did not deserve it.
