I Left The Wolf King Who Loved Me For The Dragon King Chapter 11

I Left The Wolf King Who Loved Me For The Dragon King Chapter 11

Aylin POV:

I awoke to absolute warmth. A stark contrast to the damp, moldering draft that always plagued my old quarters in the keep, soft sunlight bathed my face, tempting me to roll over and sink deeper into the plush linens. Then, reality crashed back. This wasn’t my room.

I bolted upright, my heart hammering against my ribs, only to freeze when I spotted a towering male silhouette seated quietly on the floor across the sunlit chamber. Instinctively, I yanked the heavy furs up to my chest, my voice sharp and defensive. “Who goes there?!”

“Your husband,” the man replied, his tone flat, arctic, and entirely devoid of inflection.

I narrowed my eyes, searching the shadows until the sharp lines of his jaw and those familiar molten-gold eyes came into focus. “Draekon?” I asked, hesitant.

He offered a single, curt nod, acknowledging the claim.

“I’m alive…” Astonished, I immediately inspected my limbs. Not only was I unbroken, but there wasn’t a single trace of a blister or burn mark across my skin. “But wait—if the trial of the pyre is over, why are you lingering in my chambers?”

“You had a night-terror,” Draekon murmured, his gaze remaining fixed on the stone floor. “You spent half the night calling out for someone.”

A flush of heat rushed to my cheeks, an unfamiliar embarrassment prickling at my spine. “For whom?”

“Your mother,” he said simply.

The embarrassment deepened, but I forced my jaw to set, refusing to show vulnerability before a king. “Family is the only anchor that matters in the end. It isn’t a crime to remember her.”

Draekon stared at me, his golden eyes unblinking for a long beat before he broke the heavy silence. “The entire dragon clan is your family now.”

My breath caught in my throat. “What?”

“You walked through the unfettered flame and anchored my core. You are my Queen now,” he stated, rising to his full, imposing height. “You command absolute freedom on this island. Do as you please.”

He turned and strode out of the chamber before I could demand a proper explanation. Wrenching myself from the mattress, I bolted after him, only to collide straight into Aurora in the winding stone corridor.

“By the Mother, you’re awake!” she gasped, throwing her arms around me in a tight, breathless embrace.

“Draekon refused to let me cross the threshold while you rested,” Aurora complained, though a bright smile lit her features as she looped her arm through mine, guiding me down toward the black-sand shoreline. “He claimed my voice was too boisterous and would disrupt your recovery.”

“Your brother doesn’t exactly strike me as the chivalrous type,” I muttered, recalling his absolute arrogance at the throat of the volcano. “He was incredibly abrasive at the peak.”

Aurora let out a ringing laugh. “Perhaps, but you shattered his curse. I promise you, from this day forth, his respect belongs entirely to you.”

“Respect is fine. But playing his Queen? I think I’ll pass,” I scoffed, rolling my shoulders. “The man harbors no affection for me.”

Aurora laughed again, shaking her head. “Oh, I won’t waste my breath defending that brooding lizard. But I’m afraid the title isn’t something you can easily discard, Aylin.”

“The dragon flights are already massing at the borders to pay tribute to their King and his new Queen.” She extended a hand toward the horizon.

My jaw dropped. Puncturing the heavy cloud cover were dozens of colossal shadows—some scaled in deep amethyst, others in midnight jade or shimmering mother-of-pearl.

Dragons of every size and lineage were descending upon the obsidian peaks. I stood frozen, entirely transfixed by the sheer grandeur of the sight.

In the suns that followed, the barren Obsidian Isle transformed into a roaring court.

The dragons knew nothing of the rigid, suffocating politics of the wolf-keep. They brought mountains of raw gemstones to my feet, demanding I share their flags of spiced mead and join their thunderous dances beneath the stars. Their ways were wild, unbridled, and entirely unbothered by status—and for the first time in my life, a genuine, untainted smile never left my lips.

I cleared a patch of fertile soil near the base of the ridges, establishing a new greenhouse to resume my study of flora. If my celestial blood could purge Draekon’s curse, then perhaps I could find a combination of rare moon-orchids to mend the jagged tear in Aurora’s wing.

And this time, the phantom dread of betrayal never crossed my mind. No one would dare trample my sanctuary. Not when the most formidable apex predator in the realms had established himself as my personal vanguard.

Draekon kept a silent, immovable vigil at the entrance of the nursery day and night. He never uttered a word to me, nor did his molten eyes ever wander in my direction. I merely assumed his intense protectiveness was a silent favor to his sister.

Until one evening, I caught him hoarding a massive cluster of raw, luminescent stones. Recognizing the distinctive, celestial glow of high-grade moonstone, my curiosity flared.

Dragons had no historical use for lunar gems. Intrigued, I slipped into the shadow of the ancient crags to observe him in secret.

Sitting cross-legged in the ash, the formidable Dragon King wielded a heavy iron chisel and a smithing hammer.

His massive, clawed hands—hands capable of snapping a vanguard lord’s spine—moved with a breathtaking, meticulous patience as he struck the stone. Slowly, chip by silver chip, a graceful, sacred silhouette began to emerge from the raw crystal.

The Triple Deity. The Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone.

A strange, quiet tremor rippled through my chest. It was as though everything House Selwyn had shattered was slowly being pieced back together here.
