I Kidnapped The Mafia Don, Tied Him To My Bed Chapter 08

I transferred hospitals.

Pulled out all the tubes. Wanted to die comfortably. Told the doctor, if anything happened, don’t resuscitate

One day, I got a call from my mother.

First thing she said, “I know about your illness.”

I thought she’d offer some sympathy. But her next sentence slammed me back to hell.

“Since you’re dying anyway! Why can’t you do a good deed and save your brother? Your kidneys are still

usable now!”

“Once you’re dead, they’ll go to waste! Who knows which doctor will give your kidneys to some stranger! Why

are you thinking of benefiting outsiders!”

I smashed my phone. Laughed and cried hysterically. I’d wanted to drift away peacefully in my sleep

someday. But my dear mother had to deliver the final blow.

My condition deteriorated. Eventually I could only lie in bed, unconscious. I felt awful. From my hair to my

toes. Like I was dreaming. I heard Caspian’s voice.

“Zoya, you’re something else. You got everything you wanted out of me, and now you’re just gonna ditch

me?”

“You tired of sleeping? Open your eyes and look at me! Zoya, try to wake up. I’ll take you to experts

worldwide. There’s a way. Zoya… don’t leave me alone.”

I frowned in my sleep. Wanted to tell him, stop torturing me. But I didn’t have the strength to open my eyes.

Wanted to mock him too: Men. Don’t talk so pretty. Stop thinking with your dick. Men like that get taken

advantage of…

I finally woke up.

Looking at the disheveled Caspian beside me, I smiled. His jaw was covered in stubble. Eye sockets sunken.

Black shirt wrinkled like a rag.

The always impeccable Don Ferretti. Reduced to this.

“Zoya!”

“I’ll get the doctor!”

“No need.. “I stopped him. “I just want to chat with you.”

I reached up. Touched his face. The moment my fingertips met his skin, his whole body shook “Don’t be

sad”

Caspian’s eyes reddened. Since Grandma Helena’s death, I never thought I’d see him cry again because of

“After getting sick, I kept thinking. What did I do so terrible that God would treat me like this in this lifetime

“Couldn’t figure it out at first. But then I got it…”

“Actually, God pitied me. Thought I’d suffered too much in this life. Wanted to end it early so I could go to

heaven. So, I actually feel relieved.”

Caspian’s voice was hoarse. “You’d just leave me.”

I smiled. Shook my head. “Don’t blame me.”

“Zoya, I have to tell you something.” He gripped my hand. Tight. “Your illness. It’s not brain cancer. The

diagnosis report was switched. You have a treatable neurological inflammation.”

I looked at him. Stunned for a long time. Then I laughed. Laughed until tears fell. “Caspian, you’ve learned to

lie.”

“I’m not lying.” His voice shook. “The family medical team confirmed it. You’re not going to die. Someone set

you up.”

I closed my eyes. Didn’t want to believe. Didn’t dare to believe. I’d walked too far down the road of death. Too

far to turn back.

“Even if it’s true,” I whispered, “it’s too late.”

My voice grew weaker. Caspian’s face blurred in my vision.

“Zoya! Zoya! Hold on!”

I felt his hand slamming the call button. Felt people rushing in. Felt shouting. Felt machines screaming.

But I was already falling.

Those sounds grew distant.

Caspian’s roar. The doctor’s orders. The nurse’s footsteps. All turned to buzzing static.

Then I heard a long, piercing alarm.

“Patient flatline! Prepare resuscitation!”

“One milligram epinephrine IV push!”

“Continue compressions!”

“Again!”

Faintly, I heard Caspian’s voice. Not a roar. Not a command. Something I’d never heard before. Something

almost shattered.

“Zoya… you can’t die… you hear me… you can’t die…”

He was crying.

Since Grandma Helena’s death, the first time I’d heard Caspian Ferretti cry like a child.

I wanted to comfort him. Couldn’t.

I felt those sounds drifting further and further away.

Resuscitation sounds. Crying sounds. Heart monitor sounds. All scattered like wind.

“Again! Defibrillator!”

“Charge to two hundred joules-clear!”

“Still no spontaneous rhythm.”

“Charge again! Three-sixty-clear!”

“…No effect.”

The room suddenly went quiet.

That silence was more terrifying than death itself.

The doctor’s heavy voice came from impossibly far away.

“Time of death-”

Caspian cut him off. Voice so hoarse it barely carried emotion.

“No.”

Everyone froze.

“My wife,” he enunciated every word. Eyes locked on the cold flat line on the monitor. “No one gets to call it.”

He bent down. Pressed his forehead against Zoya’s cold hand.

No one in the room dared move.

Outside the window, rain had started falling. Hitting the glass like someone weeping.

And that line on the monitor never jumped.

After a long while, the doctor whispered, “Don Ferretti, we did everything we could.”

Caspian didn’t look up.

“Then do it again.”

“I said do it again.”

He lifted his face. Those eyes that once made the underworld tremble. Now filled with bloodshot rage. Tears. Madness that didn’t care if he lived or died.

The doctor hesitated two seconds. Then nodded.

“Prepare for another round.”
