I Helped Him Get Into an Elite University—Then He Dumped Me Before Day One Chapter 07

As I was about to leave, his voice followed me from 

behind. 

“Claire! I know you have your pride. Just give me some time. I’ll deal with the people around me. I’ll make this right. I’ll give you an answer, and a real confession.” 

I did not look back, did not slow down, and did not take 

a single word of it to heart. 

What happened afterward came as no surprise. 

Some “helpful” former classmate must have leaked 

the news of my return, and of the fortune I had made, 

to my parents, whose noses were as sharp as hyenas 

when money was involved. 

A few days later, they showed up right outside my office building exactly as I had expected, dressed in 

clothes that looked painfully out of place against the 

sleek glass tower behind them, their faces already 

brimming with greed and calculation. 

“Claire Bennett, you ungrateful little brat! Made 

something of yourself and now you’ve forgotten your own parents?” 

“You heartless ingrate! We raised you for nothing! You 

hid overseas all these years and never sent a dime 

home, and now that you’re some big–shot designer, 

you think you can just cut us off? Not a chance!” 

“Come look, everyone! Look at this shameless girl! 

She’s out here dressed in luxury while her own mother and father are left starving!” 

“How much are you making a month now? Hand it all over! Every cent! That money belongs to this family!” 

My father pounded on the reception desk like a 

common thug. 

My mother sat on the floor, slapping her thighs and 

wailing at the top of her lungs, tears and snot smeared 

across her face. The performance was crude, but 

brutally effective. 

Their greedy eyes were hooked on me as if I were a 

walking vault. 

Security tried to step in, only to be shoved aside by my 

father in the middle of one of his fits. 

The whole lobby had dissolved into chaos. 

And then Adrian showed up. 

He was carrying an enormous bouquet of roses, but the 

moment he saw the scene in front of him, he frowned 

and strode over at once. 

“Sir, ma’am, please calm down. This is a workplace. 

You’re making a scene.” 

“Claire’s in a different position now. This kind of spectacle will only hurt her. If you have something to say, then say it properly.” 

Then he turned to me, his eyes carrying that same 

reassuring look, the one that said leave it to me. 

“Claire, don’t be afraid. They just want money. I’ll talk 

to them. Whatever they want, I’ll cover it for you first. 

You…” 

“Adrian!” 

A sweet, aggrieved voice suddenly cut in. 

I had no idea when Chloe had arrived, but there she was, hurrying to Adrian’s side and slipping her arm possessively through his. 

Her gaze swept over my parents as they made their spectacle, then landed on me, and a malicious little 

smile curled at her lips. 

“Oh, Adrian, why are you still defending her?” 

Her voice was pitched just right, loud enough for 

everyone nearby to hear. 

“She fooled you for years, and you still don’t know the 

truth.” 

She paused on purpose, savoring the way my parents‘ eyes lit up with greed and the instant confusion that crossed Adrian’s face before she raised her voice again. 

“Claire never got close to you because she liked you. Your mother paid her fifty million to help get you into 

an Ivy League school, and she took the deal.” 

“Once the job was done and the money hit her account, of course she disappeared. All that heartbreak and 

running off overseas because she couldn’t bear it? 

Please. That was just a lie. She took the money, went 

abroad, reinvented herself, and came back as some glamorous designer.” 

“And now that she’s successful, of course she wants 

even less to acknowledge the parents she thinks are dragging her down.” 

“Poor Mr. and Mrs. Bennett. You raised a daughter all 

those years, only for her to pocket fifty million and not 

leave you a single cent.” 

“F… fifty million?” 

My father’s eyes bulged so wide they looked ready to 

fall out. His breathing turned heavy, and he was 

practically drooling. 

“You little bitch! You really took fifty million? Give it 

here. Right now. That money is mine!” 

“My God, fifty million! Hand it over! Hand it over 

now!” 

My mother stopped wailing, scrambled up from the floor, and lunged toward me with her eyes shining. 

As for Adrian, he went completely still.
