I Got Revenge When They Drew The Same Room Key Chapter 05

Ten o’clock the next morning. I stood in front of the courthouse.

Julian stepped out of the car first. Chloe was right behind him.

A handful of friends from the night before trailed after them.

They spotted me at the entrance, and the teasing started immediately.

“Wow, Hazel’s already here?”

“So much for calling it off last night. Look at her, practically camping out by the doors.”

Chloe hushed them, swatting lightly at someone’s arm.

“Don’t be mean.”

“Every girl gets excited about her wedding day. It’s totally normal.”

She turned to me with that soft, careful smile.

“Hazel, forget about last night.”

“You and Julian are going to be so happy together.”

“I’ll stay out of your hair from now on, so you don’t have to worry.”

A touching speech.

It would’ve been more convincing if her hand wasn’t still wrapped tight around Julian’s arm.

Julian held out his hand to me.

“Hazel, let’s go. I said I’d marry you, didn’t I?”

I looked down at the papers in my hand.

“Who said I was here for you?”

Julian’s face fell.

“What do you mean?”

A sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb.

The door swung open.

Nathaniel stepped out and draped his arm around my shoulders with casual ease, like he’d done it a hundred

times.

Then he held up two certified copies of our marriage certificate, right in Julian’s face.

The raised gold seals caught the morning light.

Nathaniel flashed a wicked smile.

“Mr. Croft.”

“You’re too late.”

“Hazel’s already my wife.”

Julian stared at the certificates. His mask of absolute composure finally crumbled.

“Hazel.”

“You’d actually throw it all away just to spite me?”

I looked at him, and the anger I thought I’d feel just wasn’t there.

“Julian.”

“You’re the one who told me not to bother showing up today.”

“I just took your advice.”

His breath caught.

The friends who’d been grinning finally caught on. Their smiles vanished.

Someone muttered:

“No fucking way. They actually did it?”

“Nathaniel and Hazel?”

“Julian…”

That snapped Julian out of it. He lunged forward.

“Hazel, come with me.”

“We’re getting this annulled. I’ll pretend today never happened.”

Nathaniel let out a low, grating laugh.

He tucked the certificates into his pocket, taking his time. His voice stayed lazy and mocking.

“Julian, are you a little slow?”

“She’s my wife.”

“Watch how you speak to her.”

Julian’s expression turned murderous.

“Nathaniel.”

“This is between me and my fiancée.”

“Back off.”

Nathaniel stepped forward, shielding me completely.

“She’s my wife. That makes her my business.”

Julian threw the first punch before the words even left his mouth.
