I Got Revenge When They Drew The Same Room Key Chapter 03

The first time was at an auction.

Chloe didn’t know the rules and accidentally raised her paddle.

She accidentally bid on a diamond necklace worth $3.8 million.

The color drained from her face, and she burst into tears.

I was about to step in and smooth things over with the organizers.

Julian beat me to it.

“Charge it to my account.”

Chloe just stared at him.

He handed the paddle off to an attendant like it was nothing.

“It’s only a few million.”

“What’s with the tears?”

That same day, I had my eye on an emerald brooch.

It wasn’t expensive, but it was beautiful.

Julian glanced at it and shook his head.

“Your family’s under a microscope right now.”

“It’s best if you keep a low profile.”

So I put my paddle down.

A week later, Chloe was wearing that exact necklace.

She posted online: [Made a complete fool of myself at my first auction. So lucky someone had my back.]

In the photo, Julian’s watch was right there at the edge of the frame.

I stared at that photo longer than I should have.

But I told myself it was fine.

Julian had only helped her because of me.

The second time was at a track day.

Julian loved racing.

I used to be the only one who ever sat beside him.

Then one day, Chloe stood by his car, her eyes shining.

“I’ve never ridden in a car like this before.”

Julian looked at her for a second, then tossed me the keys.

“Take the one behind us.”

“I’ll take her for a spin.”

I froze in place.

But he was already holding the door open for Chloe.

The engine roared, and through the windshield, I could see Chloe laughing.

That night, she posted:

[First time in the passenger seat. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking.]

[Someone told me, “Don’t be afraid.”]

Don’t be afraid.

Those words used to be mine.

The third time was right before the engagement party.

I picked out a red dress.

Julian barely glanced at it.

“Too flashy. It isn’t you.”

I looked down at the fabric in my hands and changed into the white one he liked.

Two weeks later, I saw Chloe wearing that exact red dress.

She twirled in front of Julian, smiling.

“How do I look?”

Julian looked at her, and for just a second, I saw something in his eyes I recognized.

“It looks perfect on you.”

Chloe held my hand later, like it was nothing.

“Hazel, Julian says red suits me better. He said it brings out my personality.”

“You don’t mind, do you?”

I smiled and told her of course not.

But the ache in my chest wouldn’t fade.

Looking back now, it all made sense.

I finally saw how it worked. How someone slowly takes your place, piece by piece.

First it was a necklace.

Then a passenger seat.

Then a red dress.

And now, tonight, a room keycard.
