I Got a Second Chance, So I Stopped Saving My Brother Chapter 06

The auditorium was packed on the day of the graduation showcase.

The moment Paige stepped onto the stage, applause filled the room.

She wore a flowing stage costume and sang in a clear, powerful voice, moving with effortless grace.

Under the stage lights, she was still the golden girl everyone envied.

Mason sat in his wheelchair watching her, his face growing paler by the minute.

He used to be one of the stars at events like this.

He played guitar, captained the basketball team, and had even been chosen to address the graduating class.

Now everyone who looked at him did so with pity.

People whispered nearby.

“Isn’t that Mason Bennett? I heard he’s paralyzed.”

“That’s awful. He used to be so good-looking.”

“He ended up like that saving Paige. She got lucky.”

They spoke just loudly enough for him to hear.

Mason gripped the wheelchair’s armrests with all his strength.

When Paige’s number ended, she rushed down from the stage and asked, “Mason, what did you think?”

He did not answer.

The emcee was already introducing the next performance.

“Next up, seniors Logan Carter and Maya Foster with a duet.”

Maya Foster was the girl Mason had liked for three years.

He had planned to tell her how he felt after graduation.

Before I died in my last life, I had even heard him berate me, saying that if I had not gotten Paige killed, he and Maya would already have been together.

Now Maya stood onstage in a white dress beside another boy.

Logan was Mason’s longtime rival.

When they finished singing, students in the audience began chanting.

“Kiss! Kiss!”

Maya blushed but made no attempt to deny that something was going on between them.

Mason’s entire body went rigid.

Even after the showcase ended, Paige refused to give up.

She wheeled Mason backstage.

“Mason, go ask Maya. Maybe everyone was only teasing.”

I followed behind them.

The backstage area was crowded. Paige received a call, claimed a teacher needed her, and hurried away.

Mason was left alone in the hallway.

The moment he approached Maya, Logan stepped in front of him.

“Do you need something from my girlfriend, Mason?”

Mason’s face darkened.

“Since when is she your girlfriend?”

Logan smiled.

“Since your accident.”

The answer was vicious. Mason’s breathing turned ragged.

Logan bent down to look him in the eye and lowered his voice.

“You used to act so tough. Still feeling tough now?”

He gave Mason a condescending pat on the shoulder.

Mason tried to shove him away, but his paralyzed legs left him powerless in the wheelchair.

In that instant, his humiliation was on full display for everyone to see.

I took out my phone and started recording.

That was enough.

It was time for me to step in.
