I Gave Away My Groom at the Wedding Chapter 09

“What are you doing in my room this late?”

The table was covered with food. Lisa smiled sweetly, and her voice was gentle.

“I heard from Margaret that Sarah left, and you spent the whole day looking for her. You just got back, so you probably haven’t eaten yet. I had the chef prepare some food…”

Before she could finish, Michael’s dark gaze frightened hexinto silence.

His lips curved slightly upward, but his eyes were filled with coldness. “I asked you why you’re in my room this late.”

Lisa had never seen Michael with such a sinister, resentful expression. She was so scared she had to grip the table to steady

herself.

She forced out a smile, speaking ingratiatingly. “It was late, and you weren’t back yet. I was worried about you, so I came over…”

At these words, Michael’s expression grew even darker. He remembered why I had left. It was because Lisa always found various excuses to get his attention, making him repeatedly ignore my feelings.

At first, he really just wanted to fulfill his duty as an older brother and take care of his brother’s widow. But gradually, he became addicted to the admiration and care that Lisa and Danny showed him.

The more he thought about it, the tighter Michael clenched his fists. His nails were nearly digging into his flesh.

Seeing that Michael’s mood was off, Lisa’s eyes filled with tears. “Michael, you’re not angry with me, are you…”

“Lisa, I took care of you before for my brother’s sake. From now on, I don’t want to see you again.”

Looking at Lisa’s pitiful appearance, Michael felt no sympathy whatsoever. His face showed only deep annoyance, and the disgust in his eyes was about to overflow.

“Your words are so hurtful. Besides, Danny is still young. You’re not going to abandon him too, are…”

But Michael didn’t listen to Lisa at all. Before she could finish speaking, he pushed her out of the room and slammed the door

shut.

The more Lisa spoke, the more he remembered his previous neglect of me, and how he let me go to prenatal appointments alone because of Lisa. Thinking of these things made his heart ache with guilt and regret.

Meanwhile, I had arrived at my overseas destination. This city was completely different from home. It exuded a gentle atmosphere.

The residents here were also very friendly. When I first arrived, they enthusiastically recommended places to stay and delicious food. I bought a small house through an agent and settled down quietly here.

I had originally graduated with a design degree, but after being with Michael, I rarely had time for design work. Now, I picked up this passion again.

Days passed one by one. Just when I was beginning to forget the past, I unexpectedly saw him again at a cultural exchange event hosted by the expatriate community.

The moment Michael saw me, he froze in place, looking at me in disbelief. In the next second, he started rushing over. He gripped my hand tightly, as if I would disappear the moment he let go.

I remained calm. I forcefully pulled my hand free, stepped back, and pushed him away, saying coldly, “Mr. Thompson, please show some respect.”

Feeling my coldness, he recoiled as if struck by lightning. He stood motionless. Throughout the rest of the cultural exchange event, his gaze followed me intently. It was like he was afraid that if he blinked, he’d miss even the smallest movement I made.

When the event ended, he found me again at a deserted corner. His eyes were slightly red.

“Sarah, I know I screwed up Please forgive me, okay?

“I’ve already had Lisa and Danny sent back to their hometown. They won’t bother us anymore. We can start over. You used to say you wanted to be with me for life.”
